Peter, yes, I am still the same person as Markfw900, just had my handle name shortened.

My reply got lost. Tesla is probably faster, but may not even be supported by F@H software.

However, I bet the 2.5 million PPD you get from 4 1080 cards would cost less and still have more PPD than the tesla.

Yeah, but the problem with that is that the 1080s would only be good for folding whereas if I get six Teslas, I can use that for FEA as well.

I think that the K40 is on the gpu.txt list.

(Yes, yes it is. It was added 20 Nov 2013.)

What is FEA? Pure curiosity. Also, pure curiosity, at what price are you expecting to purchase these six K40 cards (each)? Sounds a wee tiny bit expensive.

I just signed up to throw my hat in the ring. Been a long time since I did any folding. Folding name is the same as on here. Psycnosis.

Looks like I can contribute about 100,000 PPD. Just running 4 CPUs for now but might be able to borrow a GTX 970 for the challenge against Tom's.

CPUs I am running are i7 6700k, Xeon E3-1230, Xeon E5520, and Phenom II X4 955.

Cheers.

What's everyone using to check on progress, or see how many newcomers, etc?

I used to love stats.free-dc but it seems anymore when I check, it shows a lot of zeroes or some strange combination of two day's worth of work. Seems like there's only a few windows throughout the day that it shows half reliable information.

Of course you can look at stanford, but it's pretty plain jane...

I have fired up everything I'm going to have for the race as of today. I have made some changes, so I'll have to see how that works out.

1.) Had a triple 980 box and a triple 980Ti box. One Ti was hitting thermal limit and throttling so I swapped it to a better position in the 980 box, and moved the 980 (blower fan) to the 980Ti box, as it is designed for the tight spacing. Same driver is used for both flavors of cards, so no issues with having mixed cards in the same box (so far).

2.) I disabled HT across the board, to give as strong a core as possible to each GPU. My WCG output has already suffered, but the points pale in comparison to GPU work (if it actually helps, too early to tell at the moment, but I think it is helping).

3.) I am experimenting with the Configure/Advanced/Cause Preference setting. No one wants to get a 9210 workunit during a race. I am currently testing the Alzheimer's preference.

A previous 24 hour 'all in' test netted me 6,350,669 ppd. It's going to be interesting to see how the above changes affect my ppd. (24 hours is hardly enough time to get a true average, but was too hot outside then to run for a week).

I've been running with the Alzheimer's preference for awhile. It seems like they have no Alzheimer's GPU WUs.

From reading the official website, they do not. They run them on their test machine when the new type of workunit is created, to get a baseline score, and that is that. I may have dozed off a time or two while reading all that though, so don't quote me.

Tony, I was wondering when you were going to fire those rigs up. Try not to blow my doors off as you go by. I just hope we don’t break something when the race starts………………..

Probably should not stand too close to the starting line when the green flag drops so as not to get caught up in the vortex.

Just for the record, I am not sandbagging………….. seriously.

So where did you find the relationship between units and casue preferences ? I need to get rid of those 92xx units. 274k for a 1080 ? for a normal 700 something k ?

You will find that Folding CONTINUOUSLY uses 100% of one core per GPU. The faster the core the better for fast cards, therefore the recommendation to disable HT.

Not for my AMD RX 460 4GB and 7950 3GB cards. FahCore_21.exe takes between 1-3% CPU time. Even when I limit the number of crunching tasks in BOINC, and tell F@H to use "higher" priority.

I'd consider AMD, except I've never tried getting an AMD card to work with Linux.

On my 5820K I am not seeing any 100% CPU utilization. The highest is 90%, but watching CPUID nothing goes over 40%,still have HT turned on, no cpu task from F@H or Boinc running, but all 6 core clocks are at full speed 3399mghz.

Question, since I know little about the subprojects. What projects should I allow for work or turn off on the website? Have a 9206 running now at 62.33% ETA 3hrs to finish.

Well, I couldn't find any info on the web, so I'm experimenting and seeing what happens. Getting a lot of 92xx tasks so far. Also having core clock issues, with multiple cards dropping a few hundred MHz and nothing short of a restart will cure it. BumbleBee's 980Ti's BOTH actually dropped to 500MHz, but oddly the ppd estimate was only marginally affected.
