I bought two 120 mm sleeve bearing 110/220V AC fan from Sunnon that should be installed on top of a 24U rack. Racks normally have these extractor fans to dissipate the heat buildup. They are not 12V-DC fans like the ones we install inside our home PC's, as generally high power fans come in AC format. It is also more convenient to install an AC fan that you plug directly into the rack's power strip.
The fan I bought is bi-volt. I.e. it can operate at 110/220. It has 4 wires comming out of it. Red, Blue, Green and Black, and depending on the wiring, it will work 110 V or 220 V.
However, I am a little clueless about electrics and do not understand the only information which is provided on the fan box regarding the wiring.
The info goes like this:
red,blue >
green,black =
220V
blue,black >--
red,green >--
110 V
I don't remember from physics class what the symbols (>. = and >--) mean. I spoke to a friend that mentioned he thinks the fan motor comes with 2 coils, and that depending if they are wired in parallel or in series the fan will work at 110V or 220V. I suspect the >, = and >-- symbols have to do with parallel/series. However, I have no idea how to wire the stuff!
I want to connect the fan to a 110V power strip outlet. How should I wire the red, green, blue, black wires to the standard 3 pronged plug (ground, positive, negative)
Any help would be much appreciated. Tried searching Google all over the place and found nothing.
