music like that has surely got to be absolutely timeless....because todays bunch of "artists" and "musicians" are so pale in comparison theyre pretty much see-thru, i dont think there is a single rock band in the charts today who could possibly come anywhere near to that as long as they live.

you took that from my post in the "favorite rock song thread"

It's head-banging goodness (and I'm not one to piss on anyone's good time, I do like this song actually), but I wouldn't really classify it as virtuostic guitar playing. For two years of playing it's kinda neat, I guess.

My 2 cents, you don't have to agree with me.

for two years, its pretty good (actually it's better then most would think), but overall, it's not that impressive to more mature guitarists.

nope it was in the links on the YT page showing this 13 yr old doing his stuff

but im right though, if simon cowell gets his way we'll forever be seeing one hit wonders doing covers of one hit wonders. you'd never see something as epic as this on american idol, i mean ****** man, i could be a pop star and have 1 one hit wonder that really only gets to number one on the wave of publicity following the pop idol show.

i could never in a million years play that on a guitar

I agree with the people who said his hands simply aren't moving fast enough to be doing that all himself. He's definitely far, FAR better than I'll ever be, but he's clearly only playing about half that song.

It's an Epiphone. Not bad guitars, but I can think of many better ones in the price range.

And to the people saying his hands aren't moving fast enough, the video is extremely poor quality. Any movement is already hard to see, and coupled with his semi dark skin, his fingers blend in pretty well with the fret board.

Watch his other videos, he can obviously play the song.

I know, this just pisses me off even more.

Just kidding, this kid is amazing, he will be able to bust out an acoustic guitar and play the pants off any girl in HS, especially with a half decent voice.

It IS good...BUT...one has to ask how much he actually practiced it...if we find out that the only song he practiced was that for the past year then...eh...

Impressive nonetheless.

I'm impressed like everyone else, but not *that* impressed. It's not *that* difficult of a song to play. But it does illustrate a huge difference between two different styles of guitar lessons. Some people simply learn a bunch of chords and think they can play the guitar. I doubt that kid started with chords. I was blown away by my own son's progress - I paid for lessons for him for a few years; and paid well. But, I got someone who knows how to teach guitar lessons in order for students to become excellent players; not for someone to teach him how to play a few songs using a few chords and never bother with the details.

Not to interrupt, and these are adults, but http://youtube.com/watch?v=tLxc_wsoPzs&mode=related&search=, while perhaps a different style, is in my opinion a far better expression of virtuosity than what was previously posted. And, as a side note, both guitarists in said clip were virtuosos at an early age.
Also, it's the difference between a pre-written arppegio, and a basic melody with incredible improvisation, and a much higher level of technical prowess as well.

I know the comparison is a bit off, but still.

One of the major beefs a lot of guitarists have with Freebird is actually what you just said. Sure, it takes skill, and a LOT of dexterity and endurance to keep that up for 5 minutes, but as a solo goes it's pretty simple and repetitive. If I had the endurance I could play it, and I am not a good guitarist by any means.

I wouldn't say he "nailed" it, but at the same time - he is a HELL OF A GUITAR player, and will only get better the more he played, and he did a better job than 90% of "professional" guitar players out there.

Thanks for the link!

After watching this, I don't think the kid is playing that solo part. It looks like the older guy with the Hawaiian shirt is (not the bright green one, but the other one). The kid isn't moving his hands fast enough to be playing those strings. Look at 4:54 in the video, you can catch a quick glimpse of the older guy moving the pick fast, at the same pace as the notes you hear.

I think the kid is playing back up guitar while the older guy is doing the solo.

uhh, no. It's hard to see because it's so dark but there are a few shots where you can clearly tell he is the one playing lead. Freebird is all hammer-ons and pull-offs so his left hand isn't all over the fretboard.

1. Don't start your sentences with "Uhhh". It makes one sound like a mouthbreather.

2. I disagree. You can see the other guy is playing the solo.
