Thing is I explained this upcoming situation to the wife back when we started dating. She understands.

Lemmie guess, a couple of months behind eh?

Still giddy over the news. Finally a great title on the horizon in what's been a dry summer.

That sounds like BS to me. I know that there's more graphically going on with Doom 3 compared to far cry, but I have an A64 3200+, 1 gig of ram, and a 9800 pro and my system blazes on Far Cry with all details set to max and both filers maxed out also. Smooth as buttah...

As a result, I expect to be able to set all detail to max with the filters at least close to maxed out without the game turning into a slideshow. BTW, Far Cry's recommended system requirements are just as high as Doom 3's, so I don't see why you automatically come to this conclusion. If, when I install the game, it runs slow with my settings like that, then I will admit my error. I wouldn't hold your breath though....

Time will tell. I've played the alpha and beta, granted the optimization is nowhere near complete, but it lagged. I have the exact same specs you do by the way. Doom 3 is more graphically appealing than FarCry, granted FarCry has had the best *released* game graphics i've played so far.

They'll be too busy playing Doom3 to eat, so they won't get any fatter.

I agree with Kamazon.

Though my point was simply that all this "you can't play Doom3 with...." crap is overrated and you do not need to go out and buy an overpriced video card to play it at high settings. Sure, I may not be able to play Doom3 at the highest resolution with AA/AF jacked up and all the settings on the highest and expect great frame rates. But based on my experience with Far Cry, I do know that I'll be able to run it at 1024x768, with no AA/AF and my settings on high which isn't a huge difference when playing a FPS WITH AA/AF. If you're comparing screenshots, then yes, you can pick up on the subtle differences. But in live game-play, I can assure you that not being able to crank up my AA/AF doesn't equate to graphical improvements worthy of the cost of an X800 or 6800.

I heard all this same BS when Far Cry was to be released and like I said, the game runs FLAWLESS with all the settings cranked up at 1024x768 and AA/AF set to Far Cry's setting of "Low." It's ligtening fast and visually stunning on my wimpy little 9600Pro, even in the heat of a battle. And I'm willing to bet that I will be able to run Doom3 without any problems at similar settings.

Should have asked before the gold announcement. Everyone is broke now.

Besides you need to straighten out your priorities. Unless of course you've spent your car payment money on Doom hardware then you're ok.

The game got announced years ago didn't you start saving then??
