1440p: 660ti or 7950?

More like 15-20%. At max overclocks they are about 10% apart compared to each other

On my Galaxy 660 Ti I get adaptive vsync'd 60 fps @ 1440p ultra Battlefield 3 downsampled to 1080p. Without MSAA, which at 1440p is not really needed. TXAA is also coming in the future.

Nevertheless, for 1440p going forward, 7950 is the better choice

A 7970 overclocks 20-30%+ and a 7950 overclocks 25-40%+

And I am assuming nearly sure shot oc not max possible.

15-20% is for 660 Ti, and is also not max possible. The performance delta is around ~10%, as clock increase and performance increase are not exactly the same

The Hd7950, clear enough. It's just 9-11% faster in total.

I finally got the Gigabyte 7950. OCed it a little@ 1.125v, 1050/1400 Temps go to 74? Is that a good overclock? I don't want to push the voltage too high because ambient temperatures can get really high here.

Anything under 90C is fine. That's a good overclock considering the voltage you're using, looks like you got a good chip. :thumbsup: Try cranking it a little higher to make sure you have some headroom at that voltage for stability.

hitting 1100 Mhz on HD 7950 is quite easy. Set your fan speed higher and try to keep core temps well below 70c. that should help you push for 1100 Mhz or higher speeds. Try 1.175v which is the default voltage for HD 7970. temps on your card are a bit high for the gigabyte windforce cooler. maybe you should look at improving case cooling. also test for stability using normal apps like BF3, Crysis 2, Heaven 3.0, 3DMark 11. don't bother with furmark or other power viruses.

Case temps seem to be fine. I adjusted the fan on the gpu and now the temps max out at 64 @ 70% fan speed.

You're right. I tried 1.10v and works at 1050. Currently set it at 1.137v @ 1100mhz. Not too bad right? What sort of OC do I need to get to a stock 7970?

HD 7950 (1100 Mhz) is faster than HD 7970 (925 Mhz) and will match a HD 7970 Ghz (1050 Mhz) . thats a nice clockspeed you got :thumbsup:

You're already up there with the 7970 ghz edition and the gtx 680.
