If I lived in Queens, I'd have to get to the Jamaica LIRR station which is located at Sutphin Blvd. & Archer Ave. I'd like to be able to walk to it.. I haven't looked at taking public tranpsportation to the train station yet but it'd be an option if I could get a liveable monthly rent.
edit.
I also heard that it might be better to get a broker and have them look, any thoughts or contacts?

queens is pretty expensive... it'll be hard to look for apt.. further away from the subway, the quieter, and cheaper.. closer to subway is very expensive..
Kew & forest hills are great.. Austin st has all the food.. its semi close to the subways and the street of death (queens blvd)

600-800 in Kew or FH is going to be tough, they aren't that cheap.
Look in the surrounding areas like Elmhurst, Rego Park, Corona, Jackson Heights, Ozone Park etc.
