I wonder if a Dell with 15" ultra svga(1600x1200) will be difficult to read text on, blurry, diificult to see...Better with 1400x1050 on a standard 15 dell?

And are 1600x1200-15" vs 1920x1200-17" wide big difference?

my roommate has a dell i5150 with the UXGA screen (16x12) and yes, I think it's overkill. he has to use a larger dpi text setting, which defeats the whole purpose of having a high res screen. pretty much all of his games run at under 10fps because he has to play it on native resolution -.-.

I would go for it. But then, I have really good eye sight so I don't have any trouble seeing/reading small icons and text. makken has a point though, if the video card in the laptop can't handle 1600x1200 it might not be good for gaming...

pixel size of 1600x1200 15" and 1920x1200 17" should be just about the same

You really need to look at the fonts yourself to judge, it depends on your eyesight; the text won't intrinsically be blurry.

I had a 1600x1200 15" and used large fonts most of the time, and the next laptop I buy will be 1400x1050.
I just got a 1680x1050 15.4" for work last week, and I've gotten used to it with normal-sized fonts already.

I woulda gotten my IBM laptop with a 1600X1200 resolution with I guess the 128MB Firegl card but it was significantly more and the performance of a 9600 wanna be isn't so great, especially at 1600X1200. I play farcry at 1024X768 and my default res is 1400X1080 so it shows where the high res is going It would have been my first 1600X1200 res monitor which I have yet to ever have My highest resolution monitor I have is that, 1400X1080...

1600x1200 was way to high on my T42P 15" when I had it......... I thought it would be nice, but I'm in my thirties and my eyes were much more comfortable with the 1400x1050 on my 14" T.

I think this is the best answer so far - your experience may vary so you're going to have to do some research.

I've got a I6000D with a SXGA+ screen, 1680x1050. Looks awesome to me. I don't think I could do the UXGA+
