Ever consider selling off any of your old hardware that isn’t worth turning on for you? Could help recoup the cost of the newest cards anyway.

in my own search for new hardware, microcenter had multiple 3090s listed for sale in Friday. I figured I would grab one today and there was no way they would sell them all today. How wrong I was…

I’m considering buying a 6900XT since they are actually available, but I’m not terribly happy with my 6700XT when it comes to folding. Pretty sure i would regret doubling down on AMD at this point in the product cycle.
I wouldn't even bother checking Microcenter's website for stock(if that's what you did with the 3090's). I just go there around 2-3PM and see what they have. It's hit or miss, but I have at least a 50% success rate of showing up in the afternoon and they have plenty of Nvidia cards. I'm sure it varies based on store, but my understanding is they sell out of everything in the morning generally and then get restocked around lunch time.

Thank you for today's stats, @biodoc

Oh boy, this is really a massive counter strike launched by the Moonshot Gang At least their productivity isn't increasing linearly (or worse) anymore But there seems to be not much we can do... apart from... well, hoping for Stefan's living room conditions to worsen so much he can't no longer keep everything running at full steam And then we can try to keep pushing the car over the finish line and hope for the best... If only our beloved cheering gerbils never stop cheering

Umm, I just moved my 5950 from eco mode to maximum PBO boost. Looks like it will add around 100k if it stays stable, and I’ve had several crashes.

i fired up the bathroom sink, and it was only going to be worth 90k points for 300 watts.

PBO on the 5950X has proven touchy for me, I've had to put manual inputs in and gradually reduce them to avoid periodic unscheduled reboots.

My 5950x at STOCK is doing almost 700k. Something is wrong.

I understood that 'eco mode' = n PPD ---> 'pbo' = n+100k PPD.

(However, variance of the PPD of CPU workunits is at the order of ±40% at least. Or probably more; on one of my 88-threaded computers I have once seen a 24-threaded WU score higher than the simultaneously running 64-threaded WU. Therefore, a few PPD readings from a CPU slot don't mean all that much.)
________

Yesterday, my own last few long-running CPU workunits finished, and I gladly paused all CPU slots. I also powered down some of my GPU-equipped computers and lowered the board power target from 250 to 200 W on the remaining GPUs. Windows can be kept closed now.

I'll change some of that back if we don't seem to catch up though. >:-)

Thank you, @biodoc

Wow, that was a close one. The first large scale offense of the Moonshot Gang has come to a halt... But now, the calm before the storm... We stopped them like rocks stop the waves... Unfortunately we were more like sand or chalk rather than rock But at least we kept some of our lead... For their next offense we will need reinforcements- Where are our beloved cheering gerbils, @Assimilator1? We need them now to turn the tide

Yes - this is it exactly.

I normally run my host in eco mode (per the bios setting). I changed it from eco to performance boost overdrive and the average clock speed went from around 3.4ghz to 4.35ghz (+950mhz roughly). On the work unit it was running on at the time of the change, I gained approximately 100k ppd estimated. However, I've had multiple WHEA crashes, and made the problem worse by updating my bios to the latest version to get the new "more stable" AGESA code. This bios flash wiped out all of my tuned settings for ram and per core voltage adjustments. I'm now trying to get it stable again, but unfortunately did not record any of the CPU changes and its not stable in either Eco mode or PBO mode at the moment. Thankfully my highest performance machine is completely stable, so about 2/3 of my output is consistent.

Hi folks, as I reported earlier om of my more powerful folders has gone down. I now know that is was the GPU (GTX 1080) that quit ...
Does anyone have a GTX 1070 (ti) or more powerful GPU for sale and is willing to mail it to Sweden?
It may not arrive before the end of the race, but I have decided to fold for a full year counting from August 20, 2021 and it will thus produce a lot of WUs. If I get close to a significant milestone (at least 1500M) then I will continue, If I am on my way to 2000M I will continue folding.
Please let me know ... and we can solve the shipping in a good way.

Sorry to hear that Peter, losing a GPU these days is a real headache!

Welcome @Skillz

Thanks for the stats biodoc

I considered firing up my 2nd rig (see sig for specs), but IIRC it only does about 200k ppd for about 400w! (that's CPU and GPU).
So it would be a waste really, and barely make a scratch on that 15 million! lol

Although the HD 7870XT is great at Einstein and MW@H, maybe someone would want to do a DC crunch trade for the remaining ~12 days??
Quite how we could work out equivalent work done over different projects and GPUs though would be tricky!

It's a difficult time to give up GPUs, when they are so hard to obtain. I do not have anything that isn't being used. Perhaps @Markfw or another user does, though. I would be happy to assist with international shipping if anyone had a GPU but doesn't want to hassle the shipping.

I have no extra's, and I may need one for my son's computer. He has a 970 that I gave him like 4-5 years ago, and its days must be numbered. So I may be back to the newegg shuffle soon.

I've entered the newegg shuffle every-single-day for the pass 2 months. Won a 3090 on the very first day I entered and nothing since then. I enter for every GPU in the shuffle. 3060, 3070, 3080 (non ti and ti variants) and 3090s.

I got all 3 of mine in the shuffle. One many months ago(3070) and then the miracle of the 3080TI, and I entered the 3070TI thinking no way, but I got it. All 3 are merrily crunching F@H, 17.5m ppd for 3 cards.

I will try again, but I only enter the EVGA ones, since they are always at MSRP.
