You guys are friggin' high doggin' the Raptor. Thee drives still kick the crap out of any other SATA drive. And the new 16mb cache are even faster. I've owned a lot of SATA drives and will not buy any other boot drive except a Raptor. Well, maybe 2 Raptors in RAID.

Keep the Raptor.

All raptor drives do are win benchmarks, it is still questionable if it even benefits desktop users in the real world.

The reason raptors are not recommended is because they are expensive and doesnt offer much performance increase if he were to put that money elsewhere in the rig. Say a better cpu.

I can understand if he's trying to maximize every dollar, but for some to say there's no real world difference, there is. Most who say this have never owned a Raptor-big surprise. Boots faster, transfers faster, seeks faster - this is something you can see and feel.

These new ones have quite a jump in some areas over the old as well.

i agree that the differences can be felt in real-world, but the price to performance ratio is just horrible there, I would spend the extra cash for dual-core, a better graphics card, a better psu, or something, and a faster hard drive should be near the bottom of your list especially when your budget isn't $5000.

Raptors are good HDs, the best you get short of high end 15K SCSI, but the money would be better spent on other parts as tjpark1111 (and others no doubt) state.

Still love my 74 though
