You are correct the ViewSonic PF790 is only a 96Khz monitor and will not support 1280 x 1024 @100Hz. However the ViewSonic P95F and the ViewSonic PF795 will support it.

Stop blasting companies with general statements like "but ViewSonic can't because they're not that good" and I'll back off.

How about putting it this way. The ViewSonic P790 will not support 1280 x 1024 @100Hz but they have other products that do. If you have details to back up your statement that they are not that good, by all means share with us. Put some facts behind these statements. I have no interest in ViewSonic or their products.

Also where did you get this nonsense that "refresh rates over 85Hz is overkill and can damage your eyes"? Can you back this up with some facts? I'm more than happy to learn, share with us.

Like I said before I like to clarify my statements when the question is raised, no need to be so histile when I make general statements, just make a post and I'll be happy to explain.

Also, that over 85Hz is bad for eyes is what I heard, not what I believe.

Agreed!

From what I hear under 85Hz refresh rate can cause eyestrain due to flicker. I have never heard the other way around.

Well a guy told me his vision got considerably worse after using monitors with ultra high refresh rates, I have a difficult time believing that.

While not a flat screen, I'm very happy with my Optiquest q95. I picked it up for $249 shipped from Onvia.

I was able to see the Samsung 955DF at CompUSA, looked pretty sweet. But i think most of the advice I get is to spend a little more for the 900NF.
Anybody ever use techonweb.com? They have it the cheapest, but I'm skeptical.

Anyone running a 900IFT Samsung? I heard one of their models (not sure which now ??900NF??) has the Trinitron tube.. this is why I got the 900IFT, the Trinitron tube sucks, I hate those 2 dumb annoying lines in the Trinitron style tubes.. I'm not sure who makes the tube in the IFT...the IFT I've heard has this tube from X person and this tube from Y person.. at any rate, the 900IFT looks better than any Trinitron I've seen...
I was told by another owner of a 900IFT that it is a Mitsubishi Diamondscan tube
sure is nice whoever makes it!!!

<<I heard one of their models (not sure which now ??900NF??) has the Trinitron tube..>>

That would be the 900NF, the best 19" Samsung makes.

<<this is why I got the 900IFT, the Trinitron tube sucks, I hate those 2 dumb annoying lines in the Trinitron style tubes..>>

What are you talking about? The 900NF uses Mitsubishi DiamondTron NF, not Trinitron, but they're both Aperture Grille with "dumb" lines which I never notice. AGs rock!

<<I'm not sure who makes the tube in the IFT...the IFT I've heard has this tube from X person and this tube from Y person..>>

I can tell you, and this is a fact, the IFT uses Samsung DynaFlat tube.

<<at any rate, the 900IFT looks better than any Trinitron I've seen...>>

Im not so sure that everyone will agree.

<<I was told by another owner of a 900IFT that it is a Mitsubishi Diamondscan tube

The 900NF uses Mitsubishi DiamondTron, IFT uses Samsung DynaFlat.

Hmmmm,Some people including myself don`t like those two lines you get with Aperture grill Monitors(Trinitron/Diamondtron)however the Samsung 900NF is a very good Monitor & would be my choice if you don`t mind aperture grill tubes,if you do then I would go with Samsung 900IFT or the LG 915FT Flatron(I`ve not made my mind up yet on which one I`m going to buy).

How about one more opinion?

Since you're leaning towards the Samsung...
I've had four 955DF monitors delivered to me since Christmas.
Two went back for the same problem. They showed verticle bands
(greens and greys). Especially noticable on a white background.

I'd have to agree that the Viewsonic is the one for under $400.
And nothing comes close to the G400 Sony that I have now.

Happy Hunting

Well most monitors have the aperture grille, are there really lines appearing across the screen?
I'm passing on the 955DF, between 900NF or Viewsonic PF790. With monitors it seems to be worth spending another hundred. I would think that the Mitsubishi tube in the 900NF is better than the Samsung DynaFlat.
Also -- where do they get the people that work at CompUSA? yikes.

My ViewSonic GS790 19" is awesome. Crisp images and a reasonable price. Around $350-400. It's got a nice short profile too if you're low on space.

I haven't read a bad review for the Cornerstone p1450, anyone own it?
The more I research, the more I realize its a guessing game.

<< Im absolutely certain that Sony G400 can do 100Hz at 1280x1024 >>

Try 85Hz unless you want to shorten the life span of your G400. Even though Viewsonic may not offer the best price for performance, they do make good monitors most of the time, and the service under warranty replacement is very good. Viewsonics does stand behind their product.I would not recomend the Viewsonics GS790 since that model has some geometry issues and really poor moire.

Whew I left for a couple days and the thread is still going.

If you get the 900NF, I really don't think you'd be disappointed. If the two AG lines bother you, well that's not the 900NF and you'll have to get a shadow mask then. But really unless you were doing mad cad work and were really finicky then I guess they could be bothering but even when I'm typing essays on a white background, they aren't that bold (more faint) and while I do notice them a little it doesn't bother me at all. There is slight geometry errors, with each invidual monitor varying in the degree of the errors. My 900NF has just slight bowying at the top and bottom. It is hardly noticeable and I didn't notice it until several weeks after someone mentioned of geometry errors. And the thing is, basically every AG monitor has these geometry error just some to a greater or lesser extent.

I'm not saying the 900NF is the best 19". I do however believe it is the best for it's price. I don't think you'd be disappointed (unless you get a defective one!).

Yeah, I think the Gateway monitors, 19" anyway, are Samsung, if I'm not mistaken.

How about KDS? They are going cheap lately at Office Depot, $199 after rebate. I know 2 people who are using them and seem happy. I haven't decided between KDS or Samsung, but I would bet the Samsung is better.
