Saw a nice Gateway today at Best Buy. Was all set to pull the trigger on a the Dell 2407WFP, but the Gateway has me wondering?

Any thoughts from the wise and powerful Anandtech crew???

I'm not a panel guru (just a guy who's been researching his own purchase, and can regurgitate) but both units are S-PVA. Not the best gaming panel in the world, it's said to be laggy. Might not do a GTX justice.

24-26" S-IPS should be coming soon, should be pricey too but I wouldn't skimp on the panel you hook up to a rig like yours.

Well they use the same panel so buy on looks, feature and price. I personally like the looks of the Dell better gateway has fat ugly bezel and ugly base so I'd go with Dell if I were forced at gunpoint to choose between these two.

I've been researching the 24" LCD Monitors as well and was getting ready to pull the trigger on the Dell 2407WFP until I read the Dell Forums on this monitor and how unhappy people are that their problems are not being fixed. I guess my biggest gripe would be the fact that the resolution is 1980x1200 and there is no way to scale it down to 1920x1080 for True HD resolution. The pixels will be stretched for HD DVD and Xbox 360 which to me for a <1,000 Euro monitor is totally unacceptable. I wish they would have kept the ability to do 1920x1080 like they did with the Dell 2405.
Other monitors to consider include the Dells twin brother the Benq FP241WZ which from what I have read will have the ability to display the 1920x1080 instead of forcing everything to 1920x1200.
Acer AL2423W - I don't know to much about this one, but the price tag is much cheaper and seems to be popular in the UK. AL2623W is 26" monitor for same price as the Dell 24".
Samsung 244T - Great monitor, but more expensive then the Dell and suffers from Lag issues?
Viewsonic VX2435 - Heard this was coming out and is Viewsonics attempt to get into the 24" Widescreen LCD battle.

Don't get me wrong, the Dell 2407WFP is a great monitor if you can get it cheap, however I would expect more for a true HD monitor to display native HD for HD DVD and Xbox 360.

Wait a few months then, the Rev A04 just got released and features 1:1 pixel mapping for true HD. There's still A03 in stock now though, so ordering now is a bit of a lottery.
