Not my favorite Triumph - I preferred the TR-3 and TR-4, but still a nice car. Not really fast, but a lot of fun if you know how to drive it.
Is your friend best buddies with a Triumph mechanic?

TR-6 was the last of an era, the TR-7 was ass ugly in comparison.

I agree - but I think that the GT-6 was a whole different animal.
(Actually, I really didn't care that much for the TR-7 or the "Stag" -- I think that was the name of one of their latest models.

Ahhh, I misread the title as TR-6, thats what I get for paying attention.

Wasnt there a TR-8, with of course a V-8 engine as well?

Yes, built from 1978 - 1981 from what I can tell on ebay.

Nice engine jobs on a couple of them, but the speedos only go up to 85 mph...

Yes there was - which I never knew about until I read your post.

I kind of lost interest in British sports cars somewhere in the mid '70s.

I had a 59 TR-3A that I drove for 10 years. Really fun to drive.
Rebuilt it twice, Jager instruments and Lucas electrical are for SUCK. Try to find a color coded wire when they all turn black.

TR6 is slow and handles like a pig. It has a truck suspension. low tech engine, a body that flexes like a piece of wet cardboard, and unless you live in a desert it will rust. But if he likes the way it looks....

it's the GT6 MK3. not the TR6. there's a difference right?

and yes, he's best buds with a triumph mechanic (his dad)
