It's not an auction, it says the type of sale is "Clearance" so that means it's for sale for that price.

Well, the deal doesn't work now. And I still don't know how someone has already ordered 30, 10 or 5 of the laptops.

Does Egghead.com always honor this if it was a mistake?

My guess is the person ordered 30 when it first went up, then someone caught the error at Egghead. Someone also ordered 10. If you take a look, the person that ordered 30 and the person that ordered 10 are both in the Pasedena area, so maybe one of them let the other know about it before the error was caught.

Yeah, 30 laptops I think would set off a few bells.

eGadget, the lot number is different, and the price is $1255 instead of $1449. The sale also closed at 4:03PM PST. The one Spawndude posted still shows up at $199 and doesn't close until March 13.

I took a look at the clearance laptop section and the laptop does list at $1449. It's only when you actually click on the item that the $199 price appears.

This also explains where the 30, 10, and 5 quantity orders come from, since they appear on the one you found as well. Either these people bought a bunch at $1255, or they are phony buyers listed by Egghead. I don't know. $1255 is about $250 less than the lowest price on Pricewatch, so the quantity buyers were probably dealers. Still, 30 @ $1255 each is still a chunk of change ($37650).

BTW, people, Staples doesn't sell this laptop so you won't be able to pricematch the listed price there.

I doubt Amex Blue will PM this, either.

If you DO find someone to PM, you are one very lucky person.

I'd recommend you guys to steer clear of Egghead since they commonly have pricing errors, but they rarely ever honor them. Just my opinion. (Also, search the archives for Egghead and you'll see lots of misprices. )
