1T, 2T... difference?

New to the realm of overclocking and definitely to the world of memory timings. Just curious what the difference is between running at 1T or 2T. I run an Asus board [see sig] w/ 1008 bios and I noticed my memory was set to 2T. It was my impression running at 1T was optimal, so just curious if I could go ahead and switch that right in bios? Current memory timings are 2.5 3 3 6 @ 201mhz.

You dont disable 2T, you switch it to 1T.

IIRC, 1T Command Rate transmits data on the rise and the fall of the clock, whereas 2T transmits only on the fall.

A clock is essentially a (IIRC) SIN wave ~~~~~~~~~. That is what i mean by rise and fall

Generally speaking you will see only a mere 1-3% performance delta between the 2. If you can use 1T. If you cant it isn't a big deal.

Thanks for the replies. Curious, if I switch to 1T in bios and my ram cannot handle it, what can I expect to happen? Will I be able to run back into bios and switch it back to 2T... or would I be in for a headache of some sort? Thanks.

Asus boards have a protection feature where if you mess up the BIOS settings to the point where the computer can't boot (especially MHz and memory settings that are too high) it will sound an alarm and go right back to the BIOS.

I have never heard of this. I know Bootblock is on a part of the BIOS but that is in the event of a bad flash.

As for Xalar's question. If it cannot handle it it will repeatedly crash or not boot.

In this case, usually turning it off and then on will bring the BIOS back to default settings. If not then simply use the Clear CMOS jumper.

Seems to be running fine, ran 3DMark2003 and 2005 without incident. No particular gains, but oh well.

Edit: Actually upon further unspection of results, seems to have added almost exactly 5% gain in CPUmarks.

03 and 05 are not particularly memory intensive. Like i sadi you might see a 1-3% difference in stuff like SuperPi.
