I was looking 2.1 speakers. My budget is low, around $20-40. I have a small room and i want little bit of bass. Maybe someone could recommend someting good for value for a dollar?

You may want a little bit of bass, but the X-230's give you a LOT of bass. THey are extremely boomy and have little midrange. But hey I got mine for $29 + tax AR (from a deal last year) they're not bad, but really aren't great either.

matas, I second PatrickWolf. Let us know how rthey sound -- please. I'm in the market for new speakers but when I read they were only $29.99 I thought to myself, "How can they be even a little good???" Yet there are 5 reviews all giving glowing reports. And one even said they have a good mid-range! I have yet to read anywhere where speakers under $100 have mid-range of anything.

So, please, let us know. Thanks.

maybe what you gave me, i thing better in bass..

There is no way that sub will get down to 30 Hz without serious some serious rolloff

From the review:

"Know for the AUDIOPHILES.....
I have the specs on them.
19 watts RMS @ 10% THD & 1kHz.
5.5 X2 watts RMS for sat's
8 watts RMS for sub.
38 watts MAX.
S/N >65dB
sub is 5" w/ a port. I do not know what the port is tuned to.
I ran thru my music collection for a couple of hours BEFORE me verdict."

First of all 10% THD is a JOKE.

a 5" "Subwoofer" even if its ported will not extend down to 50 Hz

The thing about inexpensive 2.1 and 5.1 systems is the lack of midrange. I guess if you aren't going to do anything but game that should be okay.

X-230's all the way. Logitech has a great reputation as of late and these speakers offer a good deal of bass. The best alternative I could give you to those is the Creative ones, link posted previously by Patrick Wolf. Phillips doesn't have the good rep with computer speakers, not as good as Creative and Logitech do that is. Stick with the Logi's!

I tried many different speakers (Altec Lansing, cyber acustics, creative labs) and they were all so so and pretty much all of them lacked in mid-range imaging. Now I have Logitech z-2300 and x-230 (for office) and pretty much happy with them. x-230 does has boomy bass. IMO Klipsch promedia 2.1 is very best sounding computer speakers but very $$$. go for the x-230 I am sure you will be happy with them.

i'd second the link above with the creative 2.1's. i own the z2300 from logitech and my friend has the 230. the 230 sucks. it sucks at music and it sucks at games. the sound quality is pretty much garbage. the bass sounds like someone banging on an empty tin garbage can with a bat. ok that was pretty harsh. but i wouldn't get it. i'd go for the creatives for its 2-way satalites providing good range of sounds

WOW, these x230 things rock!!! I changed them for my little hp speakers, I can feel very big difference! No mistake. Thx
p.s. one quick question, it says to operate speakers only from the low level audio line out jack of computer or of an audio device?

i think that means dont connect the speakers to a source that is already amplified, otherwise quality will suffer.

glad you like them. hav fun!:music:

While the X230 is definitly a big upgrade from the tiny speakers that HP provided and produce miniscule sound, they definitly are not the best sounding mulitmedia PC speakers. The X230 and X530 completly Lack a Midrange. They definitly cannot compair to the Z- Line (z550, z5300, etc) from logitech and the Promedia from Klipsch. I say that BOSE sound better than the X-Line from logitech (BOSE haters, I know what your comments will be so keep them for your self)
