In my attempt to get MCSE Certs, I decided to set up a Win2k Server box in my house and serve a few computers for some hands-on experience. For the most part, things are going good, but some annoying problems have popped up, and I haven't been able to remedy them.
1) 2 computers and the server-My main box is XP Pro. The second box is a Win95B. And the third is my Win2k Server. I have some shares on my XP computer that I tried to access from the server and from the Win95 computer. No go. I get the "Enter Network Password" Prompt. I can't get in to see the share names, when I doubleclick the computer, that prompt comes up. However, I can access shares on the server from my XP and 95 computer. I can access shares on the 95 computer from the server and the XP computer. The server and my XP box both have the same admin name/password. Also, ICF IS disabled on the XP box.
2) If I go and try to set the permissions on one of the shares on my server, I go to add an account, and if I add Administrator or the username I use for my server/xp computer, I can't access the share. So then, I try to add an account from my XPbox, but the Look in: drop down box is greyed out. Do I have to be in a domain environment to set permissions that way? I need to share files off the server for my XPbox, but there are folders I don't want accessible from the Win95 box.
Any thoughts? Confused?
