I have the MSI K7t266 Pro 2 Main board. It says that it will support up to 3 gigs of ram. It has been running like a champ with 1 stick of 512mb Samsung DDR Pc2100 for about a month and a half now. Solid with no crashes and totally stable.
Today I bought another 512mb stick. Same brand, same Ram. I put it in slot 2 and when it counts up the Ram in the beginning it shows both sticks. Then it starts to boot and immediately goes to a windows screen saying that it cannot start and I need to choose safe mode, start normally, or last good configuration. I am running XP Pro by the way.
No matter which option I choose it reboots and ends up at the same screen.
If I put the 2nd stick in the 3rd slot it will boot up but with only 1 512mb stick. SiSoft Sandra says that it only recognizes the 3rd slot when I run it this way. Doesn't see the original stick in slot 1 that's been there all along. I tried both sticks in slot 1 by themselves and they both work but both sticks together doesn't work.
I messed around with the bios settings like the Support FAQ says but to no avail.
I'm a bit worried that my mainboard is bad. Please help me I'm going insane. I posted this in the MSI forum but haven't gotten an answer, except for "that sucks"
