2 TB External HDD Options?

Hello Community,

Okay so i have run out of space and want an external HDD around 2 TB I already have a 1 TB Western Digital My passport ultra and WD Elements 500 GB both full.Now I want a product that i can use for a long time without losing my files i don't care if it's portable or not or if it requires external power source all i want is my files stay safe and yes I wanna use it on a daily basis. Also I'm not considering wireless as i'm a bit low on budget.

Are you out of space internally to install a hard drive?

There's no guarantee that your data will be safe or that the drive will last. If the data is important to you, back it up. Simple as that.

Personally I like the Western Digital and Toshiba drives.

i've got 12 seagate 2 TB 2.5 Backup Plus slim HDDs - no power adapter needed

i use them to store video files and they are my "working HDDs" - have not had an issue with any of them - you will occasionally see them for $79 shipped on tigerdirect

yes my internal HDD is almost full too! i know there's no guarantee when it comes to hardware it will fail someday still i want a product that last me longer and not flimsy!

I would suggest getting a 2.5" one without separate power adapter. I have both 3.5" ones and 2.5" ones and I use the 2.5" ones so much more just because of the added convenience. I'm currently using mainly a WD MyPassport Ultra 2TB with another one that is a backup of the main one. That way I have 2 backups of my important stuff in case my PC fails and one backup fails. Never hurts!

I have 8 WD MyBooks, 3TB and 4TB, hooked up to a USB 3.0 hub. I use them to store and backup my movie collection, and other than the slowdown in transfer speeds that goes along with using a hub, I've been very pleased with them.

If you're only buying one, plug it into an Intel USB 3.0 port on the MB and it'll perform just fine (especially if you turn off the power saving mode).

I have 2 Seagate 500GB portable USB drives, and 3 2TB Seagate portable USB drives, they have all been 100% and would recommend them. For as good as the USB powered portables are, I wouldn't even consider a standard external drive anymore.
