If you do any gaming at all, the Smasung has the best response time - a snappy 6 ms. The Viewsonic is next with 8 ms. The Dell is last with a 16 ms response time.

The best value is the Samsung, IMHO.

I'd rather have the viewsonic or the dell for a true 8-bit panel. even if it's a little slower then the samsung, you'll get better color. I'm leaning toward the viewsonic. it's a very good monitor.

I doubt the extra 2ms matters. Anything less than 12ms, there really shouldn't be any ghosting, and it's probably just marketing. Anyways, I am also looking into getting a widescreen, and those same monitors have come up in my search. The Viewsonic looks nice, but something about the integrated speakers that bothers me: paying for something I'll never use, taking up space. However, having used Viewsonics at my old workplace, they are great for colour accuracy (no blinding contrast to get normal looking colours *cough* LG), the scaling is absolutely amazing on the panels I've used too; letters are super sharp even running 1024x768 with analog input on a 1280 native. The Dell I've heard a lot about, and it all seems positive. Samsung, I've had no experience. So in terms of technical specs, I'd also go with the Viewsonic or Dell. Samsung can't be bad either though.

I've personally owned the Dell and there was no ghosting in a large quantity of different games (strategy, fps, mmo) or any videos. If you're worried about ghosting then I would stop since for at least that monitor, 16ms response time is fast enough. I did return it as I had acquired one of the first batch (right when it came out) and the banding bothered me, but they've apparently fixed that problem months ago so that should be fine. I have no experience with the other two, but I would highly recommend the Dell.

Been using my 2007WFP for about a month now and love it. I was a little concerned that it was only 16ms since I game a lot on mine...mostly WoW and some FPS, but I don't see any ghosting in it. Best monitor I've ever owned, with my Hyundai L90D+ coming in 2nd.

Have you checked out the E207WFP? Is this the replacement to the 2007WFP? Specs seem the same, except it has a 5ms response time.

EDIT: Apparently the E207 does not have USB ports or the ability to use an SVGA connection.

I got the 22" Viewsonic for $299 @ Costco on Oct 19. It has proven to be better than my expectations. It is well worth the bucks IMO, for its color, brightness etc....

The E207 isn't in the same ranking as the 2007WFP. The E207 is a value monitor, the 2007WFP isn't.

The 2007WFP is a 8-bit, S-IPS or S-PVA panel.

The E207 is most likely a 6-bit TN panel. That is the only way I can see it being so much cheaper and have a better response time.

So, the E207 is basically a 2007WFP with better response time by trading off color reproduction and contrast ratios.

Absolutely. and to clear some stuff up, the Dell is not more than anything else. Spend $1.99 on a 25% off coupon from ebay, and you can have the 2007WFP for $270. The coupons cycle in and out every week or so i've noticed...there arn't any up at the moment. I'm about to do this in the next month or so. And the 2007WFP is an 8 bit S-IPS panel as mentioned before, with its 16ms being much more comparable to other monitors 8ms, so i have heard. I think the dell is definitely your best choice.

I think it's all in the price. I think the Samsung is the cheapest for a reason, and the Dell is most expensive for a reason.

I say the Viewsonic VP2030 is still better. you might be getting a 6-bit panel, but it's honestly a lot better in image quality than the cheap 8-bits. Sorry. Unless you have a really freakign good 8-bit panel, some of those professional 6-bit ones still look better.

Katscan is your budget limited by these three?

If not buy the NEC 20WMGX2, hands down the best 20 widescreen by a long shot!

I have a dual setup with 20" Viewsonic Monitors that I bought from J & R.. in NYC and I love these babies.. they're great for my 3d modeling purposes..
and they are wounderful for watching movies and playing my mmos.. no complaints on mine.. and no dead pixels either.. i highly suggest you go the
viewsonic route..

I've owned my monitors for 7 months now..

I disagree with this statement completely

lower ms times does not mean it's better for gaming or value... The reason why the Dell and Viewsonic have higher ms times because they are based on a S-IPS panel. while the samsung is based on a TN panel. I recommend the op does his his research on panel types

This Thread should help:

if you do a comparison of ghosting, however, the S-IPS panel of the dell helps... A LOT. It easily outperforms most other 20" widescreens in the colour reproduction in games, and is great for text too. I know of a site in french that has ghosting comparisons... lemme find that...

EDIT: Here it is!

True. I use a Samsung 940Be and the crap gives me major headaches. I now use a Dell 2007FPW and even tho the ms is slower it looks much better and no more headaches.

The NEC is the BEST 20" gaming widescreen there is. And you pay for it... $550 to be exact. IMO, the dell is the better value, however if you have the money, definetly get the NEC. Though it's the same panel type, it's almost in a different league as far a colour reproduction goes, no ghosting at all either.

The Viewsonic is an MVA panel, and it seems that most Dells are also an MVA panel (although you may get an IPS panel). A lot of people have been happy with the ViewSonic, except for some issues with backlight bleeding. The Dell used to have problems with color gradients (a problem with the firmware, not the panel) but this ahs also been fixed. The bottom line is you will most likely get the same performance out of the ViewSonic or Dell (assuming that most Dells are MVA panels these days).
