I feel like ive been skanked.
I will RMA.

Widescreen = shortscreen
Stick with 4:3

That is all...

I love my 2005FPW. After using it for a while it's tough going back to the "square" screens.

World of Warcraft in 1680x1050 is awesome!

I wasn't impressed with my 2005FPW when I replaced a 19" CRT @ 1600x1200. I was hoping for a more "high res" look in regards to desktop real estate and actual DPI, guess that comes with the 2405. Realistically I'd love to see a 20" widescreen @ 1920x1200, that would rock!

A display needs to match your particular use. A 20" widescreen would be awesome for a flip down screen for my SUV, but would be horribly inadequate for my Living room. The key is to research prior to purchase.

Realizing it's not easy for some to adapt. Getting used to w/s is what I'd advise my friends and alike because like it or not w/s is the future that is already here. 4:3 is on its way out sooner than you think.
Well I like it so much I use two 2005fpw in dualview

Get the Dell 20" widescreen instead. That one can pivot to portrait orientation, which will make the image taller than you can handle.

try gaming or watching movies with the 20" widescreen (I have Dell 2005FPW), it's not overated if most people (that have 20" widescreens) actually do enjoy it.

Maybe i was a little harsh cos im pissed i screwed myself over instead of wating for a product i actually wanted.

Anyway ive done tons of research hence why i think this 20" widescreen is overated. I just cant get along with it.

The n00b who knows nothing forgets about the countless threads on the internet about the dell with the shoddy quality control. Lets not forget the inevitable backlight bleeding problem that plauges this product. Dont pass me off with this n00b bullshit cos it wont work.

I have the 2005 and playing guild wars on this thing rules. I would suggest only buying newer games that support ws. That means EA is out. But they suck anyway. And thats just one of the reasons.

It does boil down to personal preference. I do feel like ive been ripped off with the apple. A friend of mine bought the new belinea at the same time as me and is smitten with it.

£552. I went with this on impulse without thinking it through. My equipment is black for god sakes i dont know what i was thinking. I had planned for a new monitor for a while knowing this solution was out of the question.

I lived on a 1280x960 19" CRT for years, and when I upgraded, I knew that given what I do (plenty of work in Photoshop et. al., and almost no gaming), I needed to expand in both directions. Widescreen is cool and all, but to match the vertical resolution of my Samsung 213T, I would have needed a 1920x1200 widescreen, and at that time the Dell 2405fp was almost twice the cost of the Samsung as I recall - thus to say, simply not an option. The 2005fp, while a nice monitor, would just be too cramped for me.

And that is not considering that on a Mac (which my PB15 with DVI output obviously is) the dock is usually on the bottom (I've never been able to get used to having it on a side of the screen), and unless you make it hidden, it eats away further at vertical screen real estate - something that is noticeably lacking IMHO on less-than-23" widescreen LCDs.

This is all my humble opinion, but some people are a bit short sighted in thinking that everyone needs to buy a widescreen LCD, no matter the size, because everyone watches enough movies and plays enough games to make it worthwhile.

Actually, Dell quality control is EXCELLENT on monitors, just about the only thing I'd buy from Dell besides maybe PDAs. Only a few of the original 2001FPs had backlight problems, if I recall correctly.

20 Widescreens are not terrible, though it is a bit skinny for my tastes as well. at one point I thought it would be cool to have a 17" Samsung Widescreen desktop monitor. Sucker was on eBay the next day. 24" Widescreen would be sweet though to me.
