2001FP issues

I got my 2001FP in today and I must say I'm not impressed thus far.

I know that they tend to be bright, but I'm able to adjust that by right clicking the desktop and using nVidia's "digital display" on the NVIDIA display menu. (I'm using a Ti4200, btw). The problem is that when I play something that goes fullscreen (video, tv tuner etc.), it resets itself back to the painful bright display. I have to manually reset this every time.

Another thing is lag. I'll move the mouse and there will be a slight hesitation in the cursor responding. I haven't even bothered playing a game yet, but just Windows lag will drive me out of my mind. I don't notice this on either of the LCDs I use @ work: a 17" Micron (unknown model) and a Samsung 170n. These are both analog LCDs, but I'm using the DVI input on the 2001FP.

Are there known cures for these problems? I've done a search, but not come up with anything of substance...

EDIT: The brightness also changes back when I hit the reply button on the forum... I found a thread on another forum with a user having the same issues as I am here.

I do have a Belkin KVM attached, but would that be causing the lag?

You live in a cave or something? Whats wrong with a bright display.. Can't relate to that problem as I love the bright display.. But I have absolutely NO idea what you are talking about curser lag.. mine responds instantly and in all honesty I don't see how a monitor could cause the problem you are describing.

Bright meaning it's like an overexposed photograph. It looks very washed out if I don't adjust the display with the nvidia control panel. Contrast is very poor with the picture being as bright as it is. Brightness on the monitor is set to 32, contrast is non-adjustable.

I just gave that a try... still there. I'm using PS2, not USB, btw.

My brightness is at 75 and stock ATI settings.. looks fine to me.. sounds like something else is wrong.. Got a different computer it hook it up to to test?

I don't know about the brightness problem but I remember someone else mentioning the lag problem here a few days ago.

I backed my brightness down from the stock setting of 50 to 40 and am happy with it.

Are you using DVI?

Are you using a wireless mouse?

I'm using a wireless mouse and ONLY notice a lag when my Presonus Firepod is turned on. So I have an interference problem.

I just installed my 2001FP and I've seen some lag but it's in my scroll wheel rather than my mouse cursor. I'm running SETI@Home so maybe that has something to do with it but it never happened under my CRT. Of course I'm running 1600x1200 on the 2001FP and I was running 1280x960 on the CRT.

So far I'd have to say while text looks awesome at 1600x1200 it's nowhere near my old Compaq P1220 (Mitsubishi Diamondtron) at images/video. Maybe I need to tweak my 6800GT a little though.

One major downer is having to RMA it for a defect (a yellowis-brown line in the lower right 3rd running up almost all the way to the top). It's not so annoying on a white background but with the XP default light blue it's really obvious. So much for Q&A... :disgust:

Remove the KVM or any other non-standard hardware before complaining about the monitor.

The video settings should be able to be changed in the overlay setting of your drivers.

As I said, I already removed the KVM from the equation and the problem still remains.
As I said, I am using DVI.
I am not using a wireless mouse. This is a Logitech Mouseman Dual Optical. If the mouse were causing the lag, I'd see it on my CRTs as well, so that can be ruled out.
I did change the video settings for the overlay as well as ALL in the Color Correction part of the driver options. The problem is that they do not stay. I'm using the latest Detonator drivers, 61.77.
I have a few other computers to hook it up to, but I don't believe any of them have DVI. I'll try them (and this computer) in analog mode to see if it changes anything.

Ok, I've fixed the brightness issue. The port that this monitor used to plug into was one that I had my old Viewsonic 19 on. I used Powerstrip to adjust the brightness as it had gotten dim over the years. It kept overriding Nvidia's driver options.

The lag is still here after trying the monitor on the VGA port. I suppose I'll try it on another computer next.

Different Detonator drivers - 56.64. Still lags.
Ok, I've now tried it on my secondary video card, a Matrox Millenium II. It also has lag. I have also tried it on my server which is using a Voodoo3. Lag there also.

I'm running out of ideas here...

If I had to estimate, I might say 50ms or so. It's really awful in Virtualdub where I usually click through repetitive menus quickly on my CRT. I now have to be very slow and deliberate.

Is your mouse pointer speed set to max already? When I was trying the 2001fp the jump to 1600x1200 resolution slowed down my pointer speed alot and required me to set my pointer speed to max in control panel to get things going again.

My mouse pointer speed seems fine. When I set my CRT to 1600x1200, things feel fine, so resolution isn't to blame.

I just don't understand how a monitor can affect the mouse response. Unless there is some quantum effect going on here how does the mouse know when you unplug one monitor and plug in another?

I'll try that out when I get home @ 10.

It seems like it's a buffer problem internal to the monitor. I'd like to find out if this is just the way it is (so I can sell it) or if it's a defect (so I can exchange it). I have a bad feeling about calling Dell and trying to explain this to their foreign support...

Sounds like it may be defective. I'd suggest calling Dell's CSR department and asking for an exchange. They should send one out overnight to your addy.
