The problem is that when I play something that goes fullscreen (video, tv tuner etc.), it resets itself back to the painful bright display. I have to manually reset this every time.

I realise this was due to powerstrip, but as a random note, you realise there are contrast and brightness controls on the front of your monitor right ? 8)

It's for beatle to run, cloned, on the 2001FP and a CRT. Just to see if it looks lagged on one, and not the other.

Velk: there are no contrast settings on the monitor using DVI.

Even with the brightness turned down to 0, the brightness was still an issue because it was compensated so much in software.

Well, the program did nothing but make the screen very dark and have an even darker square move left to right. This didn't really show me anything.

Fortunately I know Cat well enough to call him a fool.

Go to your monitor, move your hand along the bottom edge to where the buttons are, and look at the two little ones on the right with the brightness and contrast icons above them. Press either of them, and you will get the brightness/contrast menu - select the one you wish to alter, and then press the button to the left of those two to activate the slider, and then use the bright/contrast buttons to increase or decrease it. The left select button again when you are finished.

These controls work fine when you are using DVI, it is only the full adjustment menu which is disabled. The reason I asked was because I got the impression you were unaware of this, which is obviously true 8)

Contrast is also disabled on my 2001FP when using DVI. Brightness is accessible from the shortcut, though.

I don't know how it is for nvidia, but ati drivers have seperate brightness/contrast/etc controls for full screen video, so that could explain why it is too bright for you.

As for the lag, have you tried hooking up the moniter by anolog, or by dvi with a different video card? It might be the dvi output on your older video card.

Beatle's right, there's a very apparent lag when using this LCD. I'm using a 6800GT, for reference. It feels like the cursor is weighted.

Well, I've just compared my boss's 2001FP to a pair of older Viewsonic LCDs. There's a big difference in the input lag/delay/whatever you want to call it. Of course the Viewsonics ghost, but there's no delay.

As a new dell2001fp owner(3 days so far). I had/have this issue also and got it mostly resolved by increasing the Mouse Acceleration for my mouse which is a logitech MX duo mouse. Maybe this could help?

I changed mine from low to medium(There is a lot of ground to cover on this screen!)

I really feel that the increased area and resolution makes the mouse seem to respond slower thus, I increased the accelaration and noticed improved responsivenss.

You could also try increasing the speed of the mouse.

I wish I could remedy it with your solution, but even at the highest mouse acceleration setting (default MS drivers) I was still annoyed.

how about increasing mouse speed?

I kinda get what you mean though. I dont feel the responsiveness is where i want it, but I dont know for sure. I still use my laptop more at home because the dell screen is quite hard to get used to

I could try installing Mouseware, but I'm pretty annoyed at this point. It's great for programming, browsing, and rotated image viewing ( nudge, nudge,) but it feels like I'm pulling dead weight. Even if I'm not gaming, I use the mouse frequently enough while programming that I notice it often.

Sounds more like a Windows or video driver problem to me.

Either that or you are just pickier than the rest of us 2001FP owners .

i am using a old ati 9000 and the MX 700 mouse for the records

Exact same thing here. Radeon 9700 pro, hooked up dvi to a 2001fp. What the heck is this mouse lag, i thought I was crazy and that i was the only one, my friends have all told me that i was nuts, but man maybe i'm just an extreme nerd but this is killing me. Does anyone know dell's return policy after 3 months?

I'll buy your monitor for $200.
