2002 Ford Ranger - Good Deal?

So in my quest of searching for cars, I stumbled across a very clean look 02 Ford Ranger. One of the only drawbacks of it so far is that it has 162,000 miles on it. Everything else as far as I can tell looks VERY clean. Owner claims no rust. Interior's in great shape, exterior as well, including the bed.

I'm hoping to talk down to maybe 2,400, 2,500. This fits well in my affordability limit, and lets me own it completely out right. It *should* get me much better mileage than I'm getting in my current ride (01 Dodge Durango 4WD with the 5.7 V8).

So, what's your guys idea on this? Anything to look out for?

I doubt he will come down to the mid 2000's. Maybe 3000. Trucks hold their resale really well, in some cases have gone up in the last several years. I bought my 1999 with 85k for $3000 and its worth more than 1000 more now.

But the 2002 4cyl is the updated one so that's good. That truck is a base model but looks good. Should also have the 5speed auto.
Expect to change the trans and diff fluid if they do not have records.

First, it's been smoked in, if that matters to you. That's what that little hole in the seat is from...dropped ash.

Second, my wife had a similar Ranger when we met. Hers had the 3.0L V-6 engine and it was a stone dog. Worst excuse for a V-6 I've ever seen.

Third, it rode like an anvil. Actually, that's pretty insulting......to the anvil. Best thing about that truck was the day we sold it. Good riddance.

Yea I have a 1999 3.0L V6 kingcab XLT. I rebuilt the front suspension and replaced the shocks and its ride got better but is not great.

My previous truck, Nissan Titan, had LT tires but still rode better.
