"The best ever, just got better."

Well, I guess punctuation isn't Pontiac's forte. Nice car, though.

You guys haven't given me any reason to believe otherwise.

We shouldn't do the legwork for you. If you want to talk like you know something about cars, you'd actually spend time reading about them. And if you did that, you'd know the capabilities of the Corvettes, Camaros, Vipers, and Mustang 5.0's.

I saw one on the freeway a few days ago. As it drove behind me for half a mile, I glanced in my rearview mirror and thought "Oh look, a GrandAm behind me." Then it passed me, and I said, "Goodbye, GrandA- wait, that says GTO? THAT'S the new GTO? Good grief."

It's a sweet car, especially the 05, but they really should have done something to make it stand out from every other Pontiac out there. To be sure, auto enthusiasts can spot it a mile away from the subtle styling cues, but the average person won't, and it simply doesn't look like a GTO! My gf's father has a '69 GTO, and that car is damn sweet. There is no doubt in anyone's mind when they see it, that it is a powerful car. Not so with the new one.

They're getting closer to losing all the boy-racer looks to every Pontiac. That goofy-looking hood is just....fugly.

The interior is probably the best Pontiac has ever done but it still looks plasticy.

There is an idiot like M13 in every car thread.

Even if M13's argument had some merit, and I'm not saying that it does, the point gets lost in his sheer stupidity and bias.

How do you figure? The old GTO was just a tarted up Le Mans with a hood scoop and dual exhaust. For its time, the design wasn't any more daring than the new GTO.

EXACTLY. The old GTO is nothing special. All it has going for it is the nostalgia factor. The same crap that people are whining over the new GTO for happened with the new Malibu, too. The old Malibu was just a crappy grocery getter - just like the new one is (except better in every way). This new GTO is better than the old in every possible way (subjective points aside).

uh huh. compared to today's car, it looks tough. back then, appearance and perception wise, it was probably the equivalent of an SVT Contour, Neon SRT-4, Audi S4, Integra Type R, AMG merc, etc.

This the outmoded pushrod that US cars use. Europe hasn't used this in years. No wonder the US can't design a decent performance car.

Ck out what Europe and Japan use instead.

SHUT UP YOU FOOL. We dont want any piece of sh!t overhead cam bullshit. WHy is it that there are no DOHC or OHC in nascar or drag racing or any motorsports that have any real balls to them? Dummy

MIKE

With .5 left to bore out the possibilties never end. Maye you ment .05??? because .5 is a half inch.

What defines "real balls"? Would you consider F1, IRL or Champcar motorsports lacking marbles?

edit: Yea, Triumph said what I was thinking, but more eloquently.

Come on now. I'm defending the pushrods too, but you're making us both look bad. You're saying that F1, JGTC, WRC, aren't credible racing venues? Or that Nascar and drag racing are the be all/end all of motorsports??? F1 is the pinnacle of automotive tech, their entire existence is practically based on technology development. They don't use anything that doesn't make the car faster, within the rules. And they use overhead cams.

Recently C&D did a piece on a Dodge Nextel Cup car. Test drove it, talked about it, etc. Really cool article. But there's an interesting quote in there from one of the Dodge crew members: "If you wanted to build a race car, this wouldn't be how you'd do it." 'Nuff said.

I'm looking into a 2005 G6 to replace my Grand Am because it's bigger and I have a 2 door now. Might see if they still do those 24 hr test drive things and see how it works.

Maybe. I wasn't around back then so I don't know how it was recieved by the public. Perhaps it is because it's simply an older car now that it's so impressive. But I still think Pontiac should have styled the new GTO just a little more aggressively. Of course, as I said initially, it's bland exterior doesn't negate it's internal awesomeness. I'd still take one

I drove the 2004 around the course at the GM auto show in motion about 7 times. I don't really like the exterior at all but after driving the car I would buy one in a second. It was outstanding with 350hp, with the LS2 it will be phenominal. I drove the C6 Corvette at the show as well. It had gobs of power that just wouldn't stop.
