C'mon guys. Let's get real. I can beat a Camaro with my 1989 Acura Legend. It has more torque and is more fun to drive than even a Celica GTS. Torque is FUN!
Don't try to put a GTO into the Floating craze because they already tried and had to redesign the whole car.
DUH!!!!!!!!!
Pushrod diehards!!
AMerican cars don't have guts, just the severe shakes and who wants a car that shakes and breaks!
Long Live the Japanese and even those Italian stud cars!!
I would put my money on any of those rather than a Vette, Viper, Stang or any other AM car

Seems to run the 1/4 in about 16s and the 0-60 in about 8s.
Roughly what my 1992 Mercury Topaz does it in.

About the only Camaro's you could beat are v6's, even a 305 would run you.

Sorry, this Camero was a V8, Z26 . We were also going uphill and he couldn't breathe!! He backed off after about 2 miles or sooner.
I have seen these cars blow engines easy. Vettes, too.
I will say again, put any of these Am muscle cars up against Skylines, etc and watch what happens.
They tried it in the floating competition and every one of the Am cars broke down and blew engines and the only one to stay together was the GTO AFTER it was overhauled to match the Japanese power and design. Then it did OK.
Sooooooooooooo... I haven't smoked anything, I just look at the facts and the performance.

Give me real comparable examples.

Man I wish you were in my neighborhood. Unless you've got like a 100 shot of juice (at least) there ain't no way you're beating a LT1 camaro.

If I am spewing, then give me examples of the muscle cars holding up under some real performance. All my stuff aside still doesn't give any credence to vettes, cameros, etc.
PLEASE give me performance stats that are tested and can actually prove superiority of the Am muscle cars.
You guys haven't given me any reason to believe otherwise.

I will only say that certain European manufacturers are looking at eliminating camshafts altogether. GM, however, is still putting their camshafts in the midst of things, and using push rods.

That kind of power for that little money is astounding though. Looks like it could beat Evos and STIs at stop lights. And with plenty of modding potential.

Jesus Tapdancing Christ you are a freaking moron.

By the way you probably knew this since you are a car 'expert' but the OHC engine design is actually older than pushrod. The Ford Model T was OHC so don't go around talking about puchrods being outdated.

Also, while Honda can make some fantastic cars you should not be bragging about the torque in a 1989 Honda. I put more torque on my shoelaces than that car probably puts out.

LS7. 7 litre, and about 500 HP. Will be the engine in the new Z06.

I don't get it. Why is a pushrod engine considered obsolete??

It's the only Pontiac I like, and it's not made by GM. I wonder about the number of sales of this car vs the 05 mustang GT.

Mustang will outsell it by a ton. While somewhat "similar cars" in terms of being a performance car, they are just two different types of performace car with different market. The GTO is more expensive, but a nicer car imo. Despite the fact its a nicer car, it'll never outsell the Mustang. Not even close.

I believe that the current generation GTO's entire production run, combined throughout all of the years, will not outsell the Mustang for 2005 alone.

I prefer the GTO over the Mustang as well, if I have the money that is . The GTO has a more sophisticated interior than the Mustang, too bad its exterior is bland, which is a no-no in the muscle car world.

They aren't selling for two reasons....

1. They aren't anything like their original namesake. GM pissed off a lot of GTO fans, and fans are the people that buy performance cars.
2. They are much more expensive than the Camaro/Firebird were, and stock are worse at straight drag racing because of the weight and independent rear suspension. Now, they are much better built and handle better on a road course, but most GM fans are worshipers of the the quarter mile for the dollar... if they wanted an expensive handler they take the plunge and buy a Corvette.
