2005FPW - Keep or Trade?

I'm at another place of total indecision. I just received my brand new 2005FPW that I got for $450. First of all, it's a great monitor, a lot bigger in person than it looks in some pictures. I have no problems with it, no dead pixels, no backlighting issues, no noticable image blur in CS:S. Yet, I'm considering sending it back because a) I may have paid too much as the price with deals has hit as low as $350 b) the 2001FP has more pixels and c) the 24" 2405FPW is very tempting although it is almost double the price!

What really got me thinking of switching was this picture:

A 2001FP looks great next to that 2405FPW, and though a 2405 is really pricey now, I could get the 2001FP now for about the cost of this 2005FPW and get the 2405FPW next year! Plus with 2405FPW you can watch 1080i HDTV without losing any pixels.

What do you think??

I's say keep it. Widescreen gaming is da bomb diggity and paying twice as much money for a 2405FPW doesn't seem like a wise decision from my point of view. Of course, if you have a lot of money to throw around than go for the 2405.

Switch it for a 2001FP.

Why anyone really thinks widescreen on this monitor is a big deal is beyond me. You only gain 80 pixels.

WOW. A whopping 5% for a 12.5% loss in height.

Yeah, that's worth it...

Where else can you buy the Dell LCDs? I've only seen them on Dell's site, for 560ish forh the 2001FP and 525 for the 2005FPW. I'd love to get the 2005FPW for 400 or less.

apapia, I just got my 2005FPW, and honestly, I only played with it for bout 3 hours last night.
All I can say if this. KEEEEEEEEP IT. I know someone here said widescreen is no big deal, but dude, if U a gamer like I am and probably many people here, widescreen will work better. Most of the games these days will support WideScreen, DVDs look much better too. 24 inch, OHH YEAH I would take that one too, but for that price, hmm no way, besides, thing about it, if U wait for next year for a lower price on a 24 inch, they will come out with a 30 inch for probably around the same price as a 24 inch NOW costs. KEEP IT, then end of next year get yourself the 24 inch and put it next to the 20 inch.

U will win either way.

BTW: If U dont mind me asking, I been looking for a wall mount for this LCD, I got one but the holes do not match up. Which arm stand U have there? Can U give me the name and model number if U dont mind, PLEASE? I want to see how the back connection looks like.
THANK YOU...

KEEEP IT! I have one teamed with a 1704FP. An excellent idea that was given to me by someone here, the height of the displays match up perfectly and the vertical resolution is similar (in fact with a double height Taskbar on the Widescreen and a single height bar on the 17" the work area aligns perfectly

I could also slap you for complaining that you didn't get a good deal: I got a 25%-off deal and it still cost 600? here in Germany.
For 450$ a piece I would have bought two.
Which is in fact how I voted... get another one for duallie goodness

I agree.. $450 is a very good deal..

"Oh god, in a month you might save $50 buckcs.. Keep it and like it!"

No point in trying to return it and rebuy it, you then might get one with backlight issue and dead pixels.. Then you really got a hassle!

If you have a powerful system, go with the 2405, if not, stick with the 2005 @ 1680x1050

You guys really need to open photoshop and create an 80 pixel wide image.

Pixels, pixels, pixels! Is that all you care about?

That's like deciding on which digital camera to get based just on megapixels!

I find that to watch HDTV with my MDP-130, the 2005FPw is MUCH BETTER than the 2001FP.

Not just my opinion, it's a known FACT that it's better on the widescreen model!

You get more of a WS game, than with the 2001FP. Dont go by pixels alone.

Lol, I paid the SAME THING. Darn thing is that after I bought the LCD, 2 days later, they had it for $394. Hmm that bites. I called Dell to try to get a refund maybe for the difference, YEAH RIGHT, no way.

Alright! You guys convinced me. I'm keeping this beauty. But I do have my eye on the 2405FPW or maybe another 2005FPW, but that can wait until next summer (or at least Christmas!).

How does that make any sense? The pixels are what defines the screen. NOTHING else. It defines the size and native resolution of an LCD.

Keep fooling yourself into thinking 80 pixels don't matter, but it's not true.

You don't have enough resolution to run full 1920 on the 2005 anyway. You need the 2405.

You are right, pixels are everything. But the point he's making is that watching widescreen content, i.e. DVDs or HDTV, on a widescreen display is better than on a 4:3 display which has to shrink the image to fit it on its screen. You end up with black bars on the top and bottom, therefore significantly reducing your USEFUL pixels.

Widescreen is better but it depends on the content. Games are great in widescreen (if it is supported) because horizontal view is typically more important to gameplay than the vertical view. This is not true for all types of games (RTS) and regular ole cable television is designed for 4:3, but in general with the latest and greatest HDTV and gaming content, you are better with widescreen!

Umm, no. Most widescreen content is not in the 16:10 aspect ratio that these monitors support. There will still be black bards almost 100% of the time.

Plus if you use your machine for any kind of actual work you will appreciate the 150 extra vertical pixels.
