2005FPW vs 2001FP

I don't know too much about these lcd's, on paper the 2001fp actually seems more attractive with its brighter screen(although it does use more watts). Is there anything I should know between these two that would make me lean more towards the other? Known issues, etc?

I am only looking at these two because I'm going to wait for them to go on sale, I'm counting on it, all this stuff I've read about over production by LG and samsung, lcd's implementing led lights soon, SED's on the horizon etc, etc... they've gotta go down in price, so I'm counting on getting one or the other in the next 3-5 months for around $350(be it on sale or w/ coupons), I'd love to have a 2405FPW, but I don't want to spend too much, basically nab a decent monitor at a decent price.

I do a little bit of everything, text, browsing, some graphic work, some movies, and some gaming. Wide screen or not, just looking for something that will tackle it all pretty well.

I couldn't find response times for the monitors but all the specs are listed and I've reviewd them.

I can assume the obvious(unless corrected),

2005FPW=better for movie, video viewing.
2001FP= better for gaming(not many WD games out there)

Again, I'm not really partial to any format, be it widescreen or not. Just want performance all around, to which ever is the better performance, given that they can be
had for around $350 each....Unless theres another maker that can compete in the 20.1 inch lcd monitor arena for that price range.


What's your input/take on it? Which one wins? Am I missing something? Is there a reason why they haven't been put against eachother on this forum(is one a clear winner or what?)?

I have both and in minority prefering a more "square" screen so i like 2001 better. Eye can catch more the closer the outer limits of the screen are to the center focal point. Also it's bigger.

I just noticed something else that I overlooked, 2001FP has a few more connections, to my surprise. D-sub and composite video. I would have thought the 2005 would have more of multimedia support, being PiP and all.

I think it really is personal preference. I don't own either of them. I'm still stuck with a 19" CRT! But whenever I visit Costco, I see the 21" Gateway Widescreen and think "Wow, it's such a more natural fit for my eyes!" Infact, the main reason I have been delaying the purchase of an LCD is actually because most of them are even more 'square' than CRTs (5:4 vs 4:3 due to the 1024x1280 resolution).

2005 has it as well.


I've both and although I initially favored 2001fp, I now prefer 2005fpw. 2001fp is fairly old LCD. Mine was bought back in 2003.

2005fpw widescreen grows on you. It's brighter and colors are better IMO.

Given a choice I would go with 2005fpw. It's usually cheaper too.

I don't ever think the 2001fp will ever get down to 350$ new, it's been out for a while now, and even with coupons, it would barely get below 400$. However, the 2005fpw has.

I have the 2001fp.. actually, i liked it so much that i bought another one last year. My cousins on the other hand, got the 2005fpw. Let me tell you, sometimes, watching them play their games in widescreen makes me want one too. However, at the end of the day, i still perferred the 2001 with its more real estate.

I forgot to ask, what do you think about the "brightness" between the two monitors? On paper, the 2001 is brighter, but one poster notes better colors and brightness on the 2005.

I admit, after seeing the few posts here, I am beginning to lean a little more towards the 2005, but the next price break could determine that.

I'm pretty sure my 2005FPW is brighter than my brother's 2001FP. As far as colors...the 2001FP isn't mine so obviously I haven't used it as much, but I think they're more or less equal.

I much prefer widescreen myself - I do a lot of HDTV watching, gaming, and sometimes DVD watching. I'd recommend the 2005FPW if a good sale comes around (not sure if Dell still does frequent coupons or not).

Go wtih widescreen or 2005fpw. The US is in the mid to moving forward HDTV era in the big time so does the monitor industry. All mid to hi-end laptops now are shipped in widescreen version. Ifyou upgrade now get 2005fpw.
Out is 4:3. In is 16x9

I love my 2005fpw. Very crisp and vibrant, and the screen world in general is moving towards widescreen IMO. (laptops, tv's etc.)

Ok, I guess I've been won over. There's still a chance for the 2001, but yes, I'm admit, I favor the 2005 now. However, can any one say anything about the response time on these things(2005)?

And, this is a little off topic, but some of you mentioned HDTV...how the heck did you guys manage to do that on a 2005??! Or I should be more specific, what equiptment is required to do this?
