2008 gaming?

So I am trying to look for the next yr of gaming and I cannot find any type of outlook for 2008...I also could not think of too much coming out considering the amount of high profile games that have been released the past few months...

some that came to mind were just sequels: starcraft 2, fallout 3, sims 3, fear 2, far cry 2, C&C exp, Stalker exp, more sam&max (sry im a adventure enthusiast ) and I know its early but I cannot think of many others at least in the next few months that I would consider purchasing...

anybody have any thoughts?

I wrote an arcticle on 2008 for the website I work at, but it's in Dutch. We've got Alan Wake, but its been awfully quiet around that game for a long time. Then there's Spore, Starcraft II, maybe Diablo III, Duke Nukem Forever ? What about Empire: Total War, or sequels like Fallout 3, Sacred 2, Guild Wars 2, Devil May Cry 4, Far Cry 2 and Mafia 2? Then some less well known games, like Borderlands, Mirror's Edge, perhaps Rage and ID soft's Tech 5 OpenGL engine? Last but not least, what about Warhammer Online, will it be able to challenge WoW ? Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway ? I'm sure I missed a few ...

wow im dumb...i play guild wars frequently and i didnt even mention gw2

diablo 3 and duke nukem are kinda rumors though and prob wont be on radar til '09

fallout 3 and starcraft 2 should be the tops...sacred i liked but didnt get any hype

i wonder how far cry is gonna look when u compare it to crysis

some of those others r nice but i never got into them...im hoping there will be some nice ones that r quiet for now

btw rage and mirrors edge look very intriguing

Community made modules for NeverWinter Nights 2.

PS3 or PC version of Bioshock (crosses fingers or patch from 2Kgames that removes SecuROM from the PC version), Mass Effect (crosses fingers), and Dragon Age (crosses fingers).

yeah its seems to be a lil more mellow...but that could also be for the start of the year as was 2007...then during fall and winter exploded all these games...so many games with TBD that could all of sudden be out in a few months which is what I am hoping...vista prob impacted the business greatly as to changing release dates


ive been reading about dragon age for awhile and I love RPGs so I am hoping...and I am so pissed that Mass Effect was only for Xbox...everytime I see a commercial for it I get pissed off

Im looking forward to Alan wake and project origin (fear 2) are my top 2008 games (hopefully they come out then).

people declared 2007 as one hell of a gaming year, even for the PC, but personaly I disagree. We saw some greatly hyped up shooters that in the end didn't sell worth shit. Crysis didn't do it for me, and the system reqs suck. BioShock was cool. How many real good RPG's did we see ? RTS is so-so, with Supreme Commander that got underapreciated. I think 2008 could do a whole lot better, with more diversity and more innovation.

yeah, it doesn't look too good so far, but I hope the game announcements this year are good. I'm dying to know what Ensemble Studios is up to. I also want to know what Rick Goodman and Chris Beatrice are developing together at this point.

well hellgate, stalker, bioshock, crysis, supreme commander, C&C3, orange box, gw and wow expansions, cod4, witcher, world in conflict, tabula rasa, gears of war, ut3 and quake just name a few off the top of my head...

some of these had really high reqs or didnt live up to hype but all of these games were either highly touted from previous versions (i.e. COD, UT, Quake, C&C) or very new games that received alot of marketing...for me hellgate seemed very cool and i saw so much about it and it is prob the worst game on this list even though all of these games received good marks

i2008 might end up being big year but as of now it doesnt compare to 2007...

blizzard has spent so much time on warcraft (which is one of my favorite franchises of all times, i just refused to pay a monthly charge for a game) as well they should with all the success but they have have just left the other 2 games which were prob more popular when warcraft 3 came out...who knows when they will finally finish up on diablo or starcraft

2007 was def year of the shooter...but u still have the MMORPGs which have taken over...then NWN2, witcher, hellgate as the RPGs (prob my favorite genre but have been weak in single player games since online has become such a presence

RTS has supreme commander, C&C, World in conflict, company of heroes, medival 2 all being top games and introducing expansions now...those have all been successful

Jagged Alliance 3 is actually in production! I so love the JA series of games. I dont think its slated to come out till end of the year though.

Edit: On the MMO side of things WAR and AoC are due to release so i expect them to generate a lot of play once they do.

Battlefield 3 and Fallout 3 are very unlikely as well, both will probably be ready be 2009.

Dude I freaking love JA2...1 was classic also

the graphics of JA2 were def outdated but the gameplay...story...char...and length more than made up for it...i have beaten JA2 over a dozen times on different lvls

I want Starcraft 2 to be out this year but they had to scrap the zerg and start over from scratch apparently. Beta isn't even announced so meh.

More Total War is always good, I can't get enough of it. I hope they can pull gun powder off, I'm pretty meh with the Med2 gunpowder units.

I would like another CoH expansion or sequel. Soviets or Japanese would be nice.

Also, while not announced or probably on the horizon, I would really, really like to have a new, hardcore flight sim to play. Lock On is getting long in the tooth.

Nobody said 2008 was a banner year for innovation.

It was a banner year for good video games. There was more stuff for every system than I can recall in a good decade, possibly ever. I got into video games in the class of Doom in 1994, so it's fair to say I've been watching the industry for a while. I imagine a lot of us have.

When it came down to pure choices, '07 offered more than ever.

And there was some innovating stuff in there - The Guitar Hero/Rock Band Saga continues to impress, and Nintendo is always doing interesting stuff with the Wii and DS.

Let's not forget Portal.

There are others, I'm just rambling off the top of my head...

will GTA4 even be out for the PS3 by years end? we never get GTA anytime close to the PS. I would be surprised if we got it before late 2009 to be honest. Us PC's are an after thought it seems.

Now if Mafia 2 comes out in 08 and is as good (or better) than the original I don't even care about GTA.
