Time for my yearly Superbowl predictions

If you recall I did pretty well last year - I picked Green Bay most importantly.

This year however, my psychic vision is not so clear. However, I do still see the Packers as the best team in the league. I think we'll see a lot of the usual suspects in the playoffs.

In fact, I'm predicting the same Superbowl I did last year...

Green Bay vs New England

Green Bay might be even better than last year's team, which had lots of injuries. While Tom Brady has so many great targets to pass to and a nice Offensive line.

I think Green bay will defeat the Falcons in the NFC Championship game while New England will triumph over The Jets in the AFC. Then again I never was good at picking AFC/NFC champ games, just the superbowl.

But I predict the Winner of the Superbowl this season will be...Green Bay for the repeat! Repeating is obviously no easy task but the Pack are just too good all around.

Random predictions:

The Eagles a dream team? Not so fast...

Watch Vick throw interception after interception and the Eagles struggle to make the playoffs despite having an easy schedule...then lose in the first round. The Eagles management will regret giving Vick a 100 Million dollar contract.

Houston Texans finally making the playoffs? Well...

Sorry Texans fans

Every year for the last 6 years people have picked the Texans as their "sleeper" team to make the playoffs, and for the last 6 years (not to mention every year since the franchise was born), they have missed the playoffs. I foresee the same being true for this season. It's not their offense that's the problem. They will flirt with a playoff spot and come up short as usual. EDIT - 9/7/2011: bleh, now with Manning being iffy for the season it looks like the Texans will probably win the division afterall. So just forget what I said about them earlier

Detroit Lions finally making the playoffs?

Why, yes! For the first time in 13 years the Lions will make the playoffs, as a wildcard.

Of course all above predictions are based on players/teams staying healthy which is never guaranteed in the NFL. Also all predictions are subject to change before the season opener, might also throw in some other random predictions. Once the season starts, all my predictions are then set in stone.

Who do you see in the Superbowl this season?

I predict that two teams will make it to the Superbowl, one will win, and nobody will remember it by mid-next year.

I would say the Pats, but I think Rex Ryan has truly made a good team. Pound for pound, the pats are better (except on coverage defense), but Rex Ryan has proven that he can walk the walk. yeah, they have not reached the big game, but when you look at who they beat in the playoffs, it's pretty impressive. They are certainly the underdog. However, it remains to be seen if Mark Sanchez can rise to the occasion. He got lucky so many times last year. This year, it's sort of an ungraded receiving core. You have one guy who will no doubt have rust, one guy who, while is approaching the end of his career (38 years old!), may have some gas left in the tank, and another that has been a proven talent. Luck will not find those receivers, but that core has the potential to make Sanchez look better than he really is. Lets see if he is lucky this year.

As for the other side of the league....I think green bay does have a good shot.

Falcons over Pats, for no apparent reason.

I don't think the Packers are going to be as dominant as everybody thinks.

I typed Jets there for a second, but then I realized that Mark Sanchez is awful.

All I know for sure is that no way will the NFC Championship game feature a team from the NFC West.

If you don't remember at least the last 3 superbowls, then you can't even call yourself a casual fan of the sport.

I actually think it might be GB vs Pitt.

As for Vick, I think he won't throw nearly as many interceptions or struggle as much as you seem to think. Say what you will but Andy Reid and his coaching staff have shown they know how to develop a QB. I think the Eagles will be a solid team making the playoffs but they are not a Superbowl team. Maclin is coming off a mysterious illness and DJax is disgruntled. That offensive line is mediocre at best. The defense, excepting the secondary, is a huge question mark. If anything sinks the Eagles it'll be the offensive line and the defense and not Vick. And in the interest of full disclosure, I live in Philadelphia.

I'm going with a couple of sleepers that will finally put it together this year: Giants vs Ravens, with the later taking it.

Isin't Jesus suppose to return in 2012? Or did that get postponed again?

My prediction is Jesus is going to randomly come by and do a roundhouse kick field goal and win everything.

What if I can remember all the commercials and who played the half time shows...does that count?

That's a Superbowl rematch of last year =o, never had the same match up in the Superbowl in back to back years. Tis highly unlikely. Tis!

I like the riskier picks like glenn1's Giants v Ravens. Good to think outside the box. I think Eli Manning will have a really good year (I'd add that to my prediction list but I'd like to leave the OP unedited if possible). I don't think Joe Flacco is superbowl material though, same with Sanchez. He has good games but can't string enough of them together in a row.

The Pats certainly do look exciting on paper, but they've long since moved away from their superbowl winning formula. They can put up a ton of points in a hurry, but they've done little to show they can stop other solid offenses or simply man handle another team with a dominant running game to control the clock (and more importantly keep their own defense off the field).

Too many people oogle over Brady's success to truly realize or remember the Pats had a top defense and solid running game for their 3 superbowl wins, and have long since lost both.

That being said I think Packers and Steelers are still the best contenders from each conference, however that doesn't mean I think they'll both make it back (injuries and emergent play-makers are too frequent and unpredictable in the NFL)

The Buffalo Bills will make it to the superbowl this year... then they'll lose.

but will they do just that 4 years in a row? :awe:

I think the Saints are going to have a big comeback year - They've upgraded their D line significantly, Ingram could be a monster in that offense, and I still think their coach is the best playcaller in the game. Let's see if Colston can stay healthy though.

Packers are clearly very good, Philly will be tough, but let's see how they hold up to the scrutiny of being the 'it' team.

In the AFC - I have to confess I hate the Steelers - I think Harrison is perhaps the biggest idiot in professional sports, Mendenall is on the short list as well, and I think Hair boy should worry less about his 'look at me' lid and more about his awful coverage skills. Yes, he's a fine athlete, and makes some big hits, but he is perhaps the most overrated player I've ever seen. Hampton and the two lb's that aren't idiots are the best players on their D.

Don't even get me started on Big Ben and Hines (I crush punters with blind-side blocks) Ward.

That said - the organization knows how to do things, I like Tomlin 100x better than their prior coach - who should have just carried pom-pom's and stood with the cheerleaders all game.

With all of that, they will still be a factor in the end assuming their O-line holds up.

AFC comes down to Pitt, Balt, NJY, and the Pats - again. IF Manning is ok, I'm not sure the Colt's D is up to the task any longer. I do think Houston makes the jump to a playoff team as well. Also - Cincy may not win a single game this year.

Saints/Ravens superbowl.
