They're still trickling out slowly. As a daily commuter between downtown Detroit and the rich white suburbs, I start seeing the brand new company leases right away. I have seen, I believe, only four 2013 Fusions on the road so far. And by now I'm seeing four 2013 Escapes next to me on the road at any given time...I'm sure the Fusions will be like that in a month.

I'm not probably going to be holding off for at least a bit - the hybrid is only available in the SE model right now. Titanium hybrid becomes available in the spring...eying that one right now.

I'm in the metro Detroit area myself. I see the new escapes everywhere, while I have only saw one of the new Fusions. It was a white one, and it looked pretty slick. I want!

Trying hard to get my hands on a Titanium AWD model, but it's just not happening! I test drove one a few days ago, slept on it to make sure I wasn't being too impulsive, decided I'd buy it the next day but didn't have time to contact to dealer. Talked to them yesterday, and they sold it the day after I drove it. I've been calling other dealers in the area and searching their online inventory listings, the dealer I was at has been calling other dealers in the area, and there are basically no AWD models to be had. Dealer also told me they got a call from a ford dealer 300 miles away asking about the one that they just sold.

I'm going to give it another day and then probably have the dealer order one from the factory...but the 8 week wait is so unappealing with the instant gratification expectations of my generation.

Dealership lots are basically bursting at the seams with FWD and Hybrid models.

I haven't seen a lot of either honestly.
I do like the previous gen Fusion quite a bit though. Not sure if I maybe even like it more than this new one. The Escape though is definitely better, it was so overdue for an overhaul.

I thought I was going to buy one this morning, but on the test drive it was having transmission problems. The dealer brought it right in to the service bay so they could look at it, but after waiting for about a couple of hours, they didn't have a solid answer. So I came home and started searching google, and it seems like the problem I experienced is what's known as transmission flare. The car would get into 2nd gear, and not go to 3rd when it should. If I kept the accelerator on, it would spin up to 7k RPMs, at which point, I would back off the pedal.

Searching around the internet shows that previous generation fusions had this same problem.

Now I'm not so confident that I want to buy one.

TBH, I've had so many of these things as abused as fuck rentals and never have I ever heard of that happening.

Fluke possibly? Bad PDI on the dealer though.

Hi...newbie here.. I really liked the new Aston-like snout of the Fusion when I first saw it but now that Ford has dropped the exact same on the nose of their new C-Max hybrid, it loses some of its exotic charm. The Taurus grille is even a larger version of same.

On logo, looks good on a F-150 but oddly ancient on a new car.

I was debating a new Fusion over a used Acura TSX and I picked-up the Acura. No doubt in my mind the Acura - even used - is a better value over time.

Finally, life is too short to drive a Hyundai.

Bad PDI on the dealer though.

Who knows...the salesman I was dealing with said he drove it the day it came in, and he had several other customers drive it, and it never had a problem. There was 80-something miles on it, so it's not like I was the first to drive. And I really doubt they would have let me get in it if they knew it had an issue.

I sat in the Hybrid Fusion last week while I was getting my 2012 Focus looked at, the new 2013 Fusion is a damn nice car. I asked a young salesman if they had any 1.6 or 2.0 turbo's he said they can't keep them on the lot. While sitting in a Fusion outside another salesman was parking a Focus ST right next to us, and since I hadn't seen one in person I jumped out of the Fusion to take a look. The salesman I was with got out and looked around (checking to see if his boss was watching) and then asked me with a grin, "You want to take it for a spin?"

Short review, ST is a fun little pocket rocket.

After we "test drove" the Focus ST (he just wanted an excuse to take it out and burn rubber) I told him to call me when they get a 2.0 Turbo Fusion in and I'd come check it out. Reeeally wish I had waited out for the 2013 Fusion, the 2012 was nice but screamed "boring corporate car".

Sightings are on an exponential rise. At least five on the way to work today.

I really like the white, although I generally don't like white cars. For some reason it accents the taillights really well (wow, I may be gay).

White is growing on me, because it does a better job of "hiding" the chrome trim around the windows. I wanted a black one, but that chrome trim is starting to look downright ugly to me. Also liking the Sterling Grey a lot.

our bookkeeper just bought one, dark red, 1.6T motor. she somehow managed to warp the frame on her F150 without putting a mark on the body so had to get a car in a hurry (something about parking curbs and wheels getting stuck). fusion is pretty.

Transport Canada issued a recall on the 2013 Fusion yesterday, to replace the headlights assemblies. Check with your dealer if you are affected.

And now 16000 Fusions with the 1.6L EcoBoost engine have been recalled (in addition to 73000 Escapes with the same engine), due to fire risk.

I placed my order for the 2.0L titanium 3 days ago...I hope I don't end up regretting that decision...

I think Pulsar works in Ford powertrain development, maybe he can shed some light on this.

<---- was considering getting a 1.6 SE for my mom...not so sure anymore.

Recall and Stop-Sale of 2013 Ford Fusion

Unrelated to the engine fire issue . . .

That looks like the same headlamp recall from a week ago.

My dealer got the order acknowledgement for my new car back from Ford, and it has a VIN# assigned already, but production schedule is still TBD. Since I'm getting the 2.0L EcoBoost and the car hasn't been built yet, neither of the current recalls should effect my vehicle.

Saw a bunch of these at the Los Angeles auto show recently. They look good in person too. Also saw the Focus ST and Fiesta ST there which I like very much.

Getting my headlamps replaced next weekend.. joy...
Sure beats having the 1.6l though. I'm not going to be happy if the 2.0 ends up having problems too.

Sorry, these are made over the pond and imported. I only play with the big ones.

The really disappointing part is how many places are spinning this. Ford said that if you see an OVERHEAT warning on your engine, you should pull over and shut it off. Duh? They need to tell people this why?

A number of news outlets have now HEADLINED that Ford told people to stop driving their cars, when that's not at all what they said.

*shakes head*.

The real question isn't the fire. Once you get any engine hot enough, hoses are going to do odd things and leak stuff you really don't want to have leaking. The real question is why the engine is overheating. So far I haven't seen or heard squat as to why.

I'm guessing it's a very intermittent quality issue that Ford's going to sort quickly. If hundreds of these 1.6's were spontaneously overheating, the forums at car places would be screaming about it, and they aren't. Even a small temperature problem will show up very quickly in an engine with a Turbo. They get hot! So it's not systemic.

I've seen similar issues when hose-clamps weren't getting popped. That's a manual operation and it can be a pain in the neck to release them. I'm curious as to the root cause.

Finally got a picture of my new ride. Got 137 miles on it and averaging 35.7 mpg. There have been trips where I get 46 or so. For my commute a bigger battery would help, I keep running the battery low and turning on the engine.

It looks like Ford is going to be investigated for overly optimistic MPG claims on the Hybrid version. Taking a look over at Fuelly and from other reviews the car does seem to be under performing efficiency wise. It looks like it should be rated at around 40mpg and not 47. It is still really good mileage for a car of this size but there are going to be a lot of disappointed buyers that can't get anywhere near the rating.

Take a look.
