Car and Driver is reporting the new Genesis Coupe will get 271HP turbo 4 and a 345HP V6. No word on gas mileage yet.

this will probably get better mpg than the sonata since this will get an 8 speed versus the 6 speed in the sonata.

I remember this for blind people and hybrids... but fake 'sporty' engine sounds is just... hilarious.

It's been around for a while. I know back in 02 and before you could buy things that made blow off valve sounds, and fake NOS purge solinoids.

BMW's solution involves a digital signal processor tied to the engine computer that pumps a recreation of the twin-turbo V8's engine noise through the car's stereo system, spread evenly so that all passengers can enjoy.

I'm biased as a current Genesis Coupe 3.8 owner, but I really don't like the new grill/nose. More power I can't argue with.

Same here, own a Silverstone 3.8GT and this doesn't quite do it for me.. Front end is waaay to busy and borrows way too much from the Veloster (which I am not a fan of).

Any sort of sound generator idea sounds just so mind-blowingly disingenuous and stupid, I can hardly believe it.

If Hyundai does this instead of just giving it a good exhaust, design and tuning, it truly hearkens back to the dark days of real rice.

If BMW does this, they've really lost their way, especially with all that electric steering bs and all the not so great decisions they've made in recent history(the original variable ratio steering rack, bangle-ization, the slow death of any sort of I6, The puzzling inability for BMw to make I-Drive as compelling a Audi's MMI, etc.) . This kind of stuff like engine noise should be genuine and reflect the personality of a car, not be used as "make-up on a pig" kind of thing. Anyone that appreciates a car loves the sound a real engine makes not some electric keyboard fakery.

I've heard about the pedestrian impact laws and those don't bother me too much. I mean we've lost pop up headlights (R.I.P.) but otherwise, cars can still looks great (Maser GranTurismo, Aston Volante, Merc SLS, etc).

I haven't heard of the engine noise law though, can you elaborate on that? I'm aware most US states have maximum db ceilings for exhausts and if that's similar in the EU, that shouldn't require a 560hp V8 to have a noise generator. I mean when you hammer a Vette or GTR or M3 you definitely hear the damn engine.

What if the most efficient exhaust design that could be done on the car produced bad sound? In such a scenario, wouldn't the sound generator be preferred over hurting performance by using a different exhaust design just for the sake of "better" sound?
