How are those penny arcade games ? That rpg one up on flash sale looks mildly interesting (precipice of darkness)

I played the third one and liked it a lot. Those guys have a good sense of humor.

I already bought DCD Heroes 6 for a high price long ago (not played yet), but now want to re-get it on Steam... looks like they have it with 2 DLC for $10.19 and 3 for $24.99.

LA Noire is a delightful, wonderful game. It's a rare treat.

I first bought LA Noire on sale about a year and a half ago for $15, when the game was a little more recent. I hesitated because of the $15 price-tag, which I thought was a little too high. It piqued my curiosity, but did I really need to play the game right now? Surely the price would go down in later sales. But... I broke down and purchased it anyway.

Looking back, I was absolutely silly to ever hesitate about buying LA Noire. What a fucking brilliant game. For the past decade or so, I've been disappointed in the landscape of detective/adventure games; it feels like the entire crime-solving and mystery genre has been delegated to small, low-budget, bargain bin titles and mediocre indie creations. No; role-playing, shooting, and action is all the kiddies ever want to play anymore. Games where you have to solve problems by thinking critically have gone by the wayside.

Then comes along LA Noire: A top-of-the-line, big-budget, open-world adventure game from a major studio and publisher, containing a fully-realized 1940's Los Angeles complete with modern graphics, cutscenes, voice acting, driving, and everything. You slip into the shoes of a former WWII war hero who's been assigned to a detective position for the LAPD. You open new cases, investigate crime scenes in a variety of different environments, gather clues and locations in your notebook, and trail suspects. To mix things up, there are bursts of action that involve high-speed car chases and shootouts with gangsters.

The best part is the interrogation though. You sit down with people, interrogate them, and determine based on evidence whether they're telling the truth or lying. Character dialogs are exceptionally well-written and conversations can get rather heated. The graphics are so detailed, in fact, that you can use the interviewee's facial expressions to decide whether or not they're being honest. People will uncomfortably twitch, shift around in their chairs, and and avoid eye contact with you if they're being shady.

I've never seen anything like it. They used a proprietary motion-capture technology to record the minute details of characters' emotions and body language. You really feel like you're drilling into the minds of people, trying to squeeze out of them whatever information you can.

I strongly recommend LA Noire to anyone who's even remotely interested.

It will be a long time before we see another game like this.

I respect your opinion on the game....my problem was I started playing and enjoyed the detective part of the game, but my mind thought "Ok it's a Rockstar game, so open world time!', and there wasn't anything. The world was lifeless and boring. I'd definitely buy for $5 though...I was just pissed I spent $60 for the Xbox 360 version.

Let it flow through you and spend that shit!

On another note, I think I'll spend some of my card cash on Skyrim DLC I've been playing it while gathering these cards and I've forgotten how fun it is when you don't use blacksmithing.

it's a continuous story so I would grab all 4 if you are interested. Part 3 and 4 were made by penny arcade, the first 2 were made by a different company. I enjoyed them. They are maybe 5-6 hours each.

I am having too much fun with this trading cards stuff. Much much more than I ever thought I was going to have. I was so sure that I was just going to farm all the card drops I can get and sell everything, but I ended up crafting some badges, and doing all kinds of buy/sell/trade actions. It is surprisingly enjoyable to me.

Bought 5 or 6 little games only so far but I haven't had to pay anything out of pocket yet because of the 'profit' from selling cards. This is some amazing stuff. Good job, Steam ^_^

Same. Like a mini stock market game.

Had some downtime, and made a chart of prices, and tried to buy low and sell high, while creating badges for the levels of booster pack % increase. Even sniped high volume (recently sold)cards being sold for low prices, through endless searching, and resold for a profit of $.10+.

Found games I could buy and sell their cards, and end up with a profit in my Steam wallet. Watched some sets go up and down, and banked on my #1 finding - early game cards are dirt cheap for a day or two.

Tropico 4 cards, which just were revealed were selling for around 12 cents, even though there were only 70 of them on the market of the normally 3 million + strong Steam gamers. My 500 xp lvl 5 Tropico 4 badge cost me 8 summer sale cards (sold from 80-40 cents each).

Just trying to get level 20 (real close), so I can see if that booster pack % increase will offer any dividends.

Thanks, I'll do that. Bought 3 and 4 based on feedback here and they are fantastic (based on 30min or so on each). I'll hunt down 1 and2 before I continue.
Bonus.. Got a foil card while playing and made 6 bucks back +++profit

The only problem is that Penny Arcade 1 and 2 are not on sale at all. Full price!? Who does that!?

Oh, and I find it amusing that the latest Flash Sale is You Need a Budget 4.

So..it would seem there are hidden deals being changed at a regular interval. I had just looked up Resident Evil 5 about an hour ago and it was only 25% off...and now it is 75% off.

That it's funny is the only reason that is acceptable. Otherwise that's not even a game.

It's on sale as part of the Resident Evil daily deal. I haven't kept track of it, but it should have been 75% off since the daily deal went up yesterday.

I wouldn't buy System Shock 2 on Steam...it's been that cheap on GOG, and to play on newer systems you have to mod the hell out of it.

Oh, now I find out. I bought it thinking precisely that it functioned on newer systems -- I suppose I confused the GOG version which I'd heard the good things about with this one.

Well, this sort of sucks.

Edit: I checked out the SS2 Steam support pages and came across a request for input from the "guys who are responsible for getting System Shock 2 on GOG + Steam!" -- actually, here's a link to it.

So, while I am taking your word for it for now, I'm also downloading Steam's SS2 right now in the hope that if it was the same guys who brought it to both GOG and Steam, the Steam experience won't be much worse than the GOG one.

What's wrong with system shock 2 on steam? It says it runs on Win 7 and 8, the current threads don't mention a problem...

I didn't mean it didn't run, sorry. I have no idea if the Steam one works. I meant there's a mega mod/s for it to bring it at least somewhat up to date graphically etc. I don't recommend buying games you are going to heavily mod on Steam due to their updating practices. Those mods don't come with the game.

I imagine if the same team brought it to both, it should run.

Ah, yeah, that sentence can indeed be interpreted that way.

In any case, just from stepping into the the first few moments of the game, everything seems to work just fine.

As for the rest, the default automatic update behavior can easily be turned off on a per-game basis if you want to keep things just the way you like them.

So, all in all, good times

So what makes sense on Heroes 6? It looks like Amazon has Heroes 6 complete for $17 (or $14.50 with a code 'gooncave'), but no steam key. Steam is $25.

Get my second foil card and I am happy as can be, go check the price on the Market, it is selling for freaking $0.64, fuck me

At least you got one. I haven't (nor a booster pack).

My theory is that card prices will go back up after the Steam sale is over.......so hold on to it.
