First off, the SRT is base priced at $97,000, not the other way around:

The SRT Viper starts at $99,390, which includes $1,995 for destination but doesn’t include a gas-guzzler tax that’s still being finalized. The most basic Viper features a fixed Bilstein suspension, fabric-covered Sabelt seats, vinyl-wrapped console and door panels, napa leather-wrapped dash, nine-speaker sound system and an 8.4-inch Uconnect touch screen to control entertainment functions and Bluetooth phone and streaming audio.

Premium Viper GTS models begin at $122,390 including destination costs. Highlighting the GTS are a dual-mode Bilstein adjustable suspension, four-mode stability-control system, exclusive two-outlet carbon fiber hood and six-spoke wheels.

It's easy to see $135-140k pricing once you get features to compete with the Italians. Then, since these aren't going to be exactly plentiful, dealers are going to mark them up, and 10-15% is common for something like this. Don't think for a second they won't be able to sell them at that price either. That's $150k+. Now, a 2008 Gallardo coupe goes for $130k+. Bolt-on SC w/ ECU upgrade will clock in around $30k. That's the same ballpark. Plus, rear-mid AWD with more HP, same torque, same weight. A lot comes down to whether you'd want a mid-engined supercar, or a traditional style American muscle car. They fill different niches.

Reliability? Probably goes to the Viper, I'll grant you that. Although, the Gallardo is much better about that than the V12 big boys. Looks? That's subjective, I love the look of the baby Lambo.

and the Viper interior? Eh, like I said, it doesn't really do it for me.

Sigh... So you've put in an order for your lambo then?

I like everything about it except the headlights.

If a V8 Viper existed in the low 40k region I wonder how many they would sell? If it had the mustang GT v8 or even the Gt500s engine in the low 50s I bet it would be amazing.

How heavy is it supposed to be? Only skimmed article on my phone.

How do you figure they could get the price down to 40% by dropping 2 cylinders?

A NEW GT-R with an AMS Alpha 9 package should come under $130K and will slap around a 760hp Gallardo. So what is your point?

And if you are not impressed with the Viper's interior, I don't know how you can think the Lambo Gallardo's is better.

"Slap around?" No. Both are pushing physical limits for a road car, and both are almost the same bhp /ton: 760bhp /3300lbs, 850bhp /3800lbs And both have almost the same 1/4 mile times: 10.2 sec and 10.1 sec. That's not "slapping" anyone around. Also, at the end of the day, the Nissan is still a Nissan.

The GT-R Alpha 9 is a 9 second car (9.95) on pump gas. And at the end of the day, you have a new car, not a 4 year old car.

A 4-year-old Lambo is better than a new GT-R. Sorry, bro. Just the way it is.

Why don't you each buy the one you think is better, and then race them around the 'ring to find out who is right?

And I'd take the new Viper over both of them. My point is, faster doesn't always mean the better car. Hell, the GT-R Alpha 9 will smoke the Ferrari 599, but no way would I pick it over the Ferrari.

Another benefit to the Viper is that you don't look like a douche showing off wealth, like Ferrari and Lamborghini owners. You look like a car enthusiast who happens to be rich. On that note, it sucks they're going to introduce an automatic trans.

I read that they considered putting a V8 in there but found that all of them were TOO BIG! The V10 has just the right dimensions to fit down low and wide in the engine bay.

I also like how EVERY vent is functional on the car and not stupid cosmetic crap.

Second off:

<snip pics>

...looks pretty damn good to me.

No cup holders? At least there isn't a spoke on the bottom of the steering wheel so I guess I can balance the MegaGulp there.

Edit: Looks like the base model has cupholders so maybe get them as an option on the GTS?

Seriously? Does politics and the opinion of others mean so much to you that you'd worry about that? I can't imagine living that way, it must be tiring.

Also, it's still a very expensive/exotic car in the eyes of 95+% of the public. If they weigh who you are by such a ridiculous metric, they're still going to think you're a douche.

If it doesn't matter to you what people think, something is probably wrong with your brain. The lack of "rich showoff" connotation with the Viper is just a really nice bonus.

Uh I've seen more people showing off and pretending to be rich in base C6 Corvettes, BMW 328i,C230, and IS250 acting like douches than actual wealthy people in Ferraris and Lamborghinis.

Maybe they could take a hint or two from GM, then.
