Prices seem to have gone down recently at a local gas station here. $3.01 for unleaded is a good deal to me.

Diesel in the U.S. Pacific Northwest surged to a seasonal record as exports and refinery upsets, including repairs at Royal Dutch Shell Plc (RDSA)’s plant in Washington state, cut market supplies.



Spot diesel in Portland, Oregon, a benchmark for the Northwest, has been assessed at 40 cents a gallon above diesel futures traded on the New York Mercantile Exchange for the past week, its biggest premium since Aug. 20, 2012. It’s also the highest level for this time of year since at least 2007, when Bloomberg began compiling prices.



The premium for diesel in Portland has quadrupled in the past month as traders search for supplies amid inventories that have slid to a 17-year seasonal low across the U.S. West Coast. Shell’s 145,000-barrel-a-day Anacortes, Washington, plant shut a coker on Sept. 7 that makes light products including diesel and gas oil for further refining, according to Genscape Inc., an energy data company based in Louisville, Kentucky.



“They were already short supplies and then Shell happened,” Bob Van der Valk, an independent energy analyst in Terry, Montana, said by telephone.



“They were shipping gasoline and diesel up to Canada to help supply that market, and now they’re having to deal with their own shortage in the Pacific Northwest.



It’ll all ease up eventually when they start diverting cargoes from other places.”

Yeah, Dave is an economic GENIUS predicting that gas prices might go up for the weekend. I guess I should call hotel owners in Munich "thugs" too since their hotel rooms went up 3x because of Oktoberfest and I am having to pay the inflated price for my trip in a few weeks.

Those hotel thugs are hard to figure out. Some places the price is high Monday - Thursday and cheaper Friday - Sunday and other places high Friday - Saturday and cheaper Sunday - Thursday.
