Oil prices rocket by nearly $4 a barrel



Oil prices surged by nearly $4 a barrel in late trade Friday, rebounding from six-year lows on month-end covering and signs the industry is quickly tightening exploration activities.


Baker Hughes North America rig count, which gauges activity in the United States, Canada and Gulf of Mexico oil and gas fields, took a sharp fall over the past week, dropping by 128 rigs to 1,937. That compared with 2,393 a year ago.


"That's the lowest level we've seen in a couple of years. Perhaps that means tighter supplies in the future," said Flynn.

Baker Hughes North America rig count, which gauges activity in the United States, Canada and Gulf of Mexico oil and gas fields, took a sharp fall over the past week, dropping by 128 rigs to 1,937. That compared with 2,393 a year ago.


"That's the lowest level we've seen in a couple of years. Perhaps that means tighter supplies in the future," said Flynn.

I'm guessing gas prices stay around $2.25 - $2.45 for the year, perhaps peaking around $2.80 during the summer.

Yes, by McOWNED. IIRC, he had a big site asking for donations for his lawyers and it was well documented on this site, including by him.

It isn't like I'm some "l337 haxxor" to post his pictures -- they're publicly available to everyone and I'm pretty sure (but too lazy to verify) that Dave has even posted links before.

OPEC Sees Oil Prices Exploding to $200 a Barrel



Right now the oil market is totally focused on finding a bottom for oil prices. However, according to OPEC's Secretary-General Abdulla al-Badri we've already hit bottom. Not only that, but he sees a real possibility that oil prices could explode higher to upwards of $200 per barrel in the future.



He's far from the only one that sees a return of triple-digit oil prices.

Oil companies have made deep cuts to spending, which will eventually lead to lower production growth. Further, the rig count in the U.S. is plunging, which is usually a key to a bottom in oil prices. However, in the midst of cutting back as the industry works through the current oversupply the Secretary-General is now warning that the industry is putting future oil supplies at risk by under investing today.

Underinvestment leads to a shortage

The Secretary-General said that, "if you don't invest in oil and gas, you will see more than $200" when it comes to future oil prices.

Data from the American Automobile Association (AAA) said average gas prices across the country have increased for the last seven days in a row and will likely will keep moving upward.


The pending price jump results from refinery issues and more stable crude oil costs, according to the AAA. Refineries begin an annual "maintenance season" around this time of year, which typically cuts production and accounts for a slight bump in prices.


This year, however, customers should expect pump prices to increase between 30-50 cents per gallon between early February and the middle of spring-slightly higher than the 22-cent average seasonal jump seen in the last five years.

The woman reporting on that piece does not understand the amount of money oil companies have made in the last three years (each contract is three years long), money is not the problem within the oil industry. She does not know what is being negotiated on, specifically what Shell is offering the national representatives for the oil industry and what they are asking for.

The strike is not about the amount of money they get paid per hour or their payraise this year. Read up on the USW website to see what they are mainly upset about.
