2017 was my first Pentathlon, so I'm missing out on everybody else's Déjà Vu feeling. ;-)

PS,

It hasn't happened since 4 years that all projects are running at the same time, or can at least be prepared. Lately, the sprint has been quite at the end, and one of the 5-day disciplines at the beginning. Tomorrow, and from Sunday to Thursday, there are 3 disciplines counting for credits concurrently.

My Universe bunker finally made it out. Networking must have gotten interrupted when I tried to dump it the other day.

That computer's networking is really weird - it uses Internet Connection Sharing through my laptop, which cuts out any time the Windows-based laptop reboots for updates. I've ordered a USB WiFi dongle to cut out the middle-computer, but it hasn't arrived yet.

CNT have latched on to us in the swimming contest. Is this even within the rules? ;-)

Wow. Looking at their hourly production, it would appear they are only releasing tasks as needed, very precisely staying in line behind us (a small group of us actually with nearly the same points). Clearly they will pass the group when it suits them.

It makes me wonder just how much they have stashed away, ready for that final push?

Oh, I only now noticed that the announcement of the last discipline also came with the disclosure of all team votes for projects (as set forward in the rules).

Jeeper's bulletin on day 6 has been published in German, based on 15:00 UTC stats. Official translations are to come; here is a preliminary translation of mine of a few parts:

Swimming: "OCN consider themselves quite safe at #7. Only an insane final sprint could enable Poland (#8), RKN (#9), TAAT (#10), or CNT (#11) to pass. You shouldn't dismiss this possibility though, dear reader. Everything is possible at the Pentathlon. The Czechs for instance are always good for surprises of this kind."

Marathon: "Things have calmed down. [...] TAAT (#6), OCN (#7), CNT (#8), AF (#9), and MK (#10) are not showing any ambitions currently."

Overall: "We will see bigger changes probably only after the start of the Sprint, [...] No changes behind #6: OCN (#7), TAAT (#8), CNT (#9), RKN (#10), and MK (#11) don't stir yet."

Edit,
translations have been posted.

CNT was slow to respond to the sudden/amazing/freaking incredible bunker release on Universe.....but now they are matching us again, lol, although trailing a good deal further than before. The last few updates show them as having the exact angle of progress/points as us on the stats chart, lol. This is almost like that battle we had in January against Brony.

Well, I am disappointed with the payout from Rosetta. 25 CPU thread-days gave me only about 17k points.

Glad it's all going well.......OTOH for me not so good........ Severe weather strikes again , appears it's going to be a 3 day stretch. I might be able to run the quicker machines in between storms though, for now I'm pulling the plugs. Snow to 80* and all crap in between!!!

It could last... I may even add another few threads....
Despite the low payout I mentioned above, our performance here has inspired me to throw a few more threads on myself. It is a sprint, after all.

The english translation of Jeeper's bulletin is delayed until tomorrow. Here is an auto-translation which I edited a bit:

Day 7 - 11 May 2018

What a day! Start and finish within a day. And everything is pretty mixed again. Due to the action in Swimming and in the Sprint, and their consequences for the overall standings, I leave the Marathon aside today, because it is currently a little quieter there. Of course, the teams have shifted their focus a bit at the moment. Because in the next few hours, the first decision comes in:

Swimming
What a finale is awaiting us here. The spectators jump up from their seats. If somebody isn't on their feat by now, call the amulance. SUSA has just taken the lead again after P3D (#2) managed to pass the Americans. What else can both teams mobilize in order to win the final sprint?

The fight for bronze is no less exciting. In 2015, AF (#3) last managed to step onto the podium in a discipline, and appear highly motivated. TC (#4) currently have to lick their scales, they could not withstand the furious attack in the last hours and had to give up bronze. But I am sure that the fire breathers from the Far East have not set off all the fireworks yet.

SG (#5) continues to break away from [H] (#6), but the lead is not too large for a final bunker hit. This was already delivered by TAAT. With an awesome boost, they passed OCN (#8) and CNT (#9) to take #7. If there is still juice, it is even possible to attack 5th place! This makes the spurt of the Czechs appear almost puny, but far from it. Here too, a strong intermediate sprint has ensured a significant improvement.

Losers of the last hours are Poland (#10) and RKN (#11), but this does not mean that both will give up already. No danger seems to threaten from behind. The distance is comfortable and Australia (#12) does not make an effort to attack. Place 13 seems to be the maximum achievable for Meisterkühler. They are still in this position, but EVGA (#14) is already asserting its claim. Italy (#15) is still there too, even though they just had to yield their position.

Chinese Dream (#16) and USA (#17) seem to be happy with their rankings, and LTT Forums are looking pretty at #18. But behind them, #19 is still contested. Ukraine (#19), LITOMYSL (#20), Boincstats (#21), and even the AMD Users (#22) are players here. Place 23 is not yet secured by Das Kartell, because SETIKAH (#24) is showing up again and again. And you should not disregard 2ch (#25) either, dear readers.

Mixi has a good chance to enter #26. Meanwhile, the Boinc Confederation (#27) has come under pressure. Crystal Dream (#28) is getting closer and has passed the UK BOINC Team (#29). Pfalz (#30), US Army (#31), and Bitola (#32) are apparently content to be at the end of the field.

Sprint
It is no surprise that SUSA (#1) came out of the starting block the fastest. Behind them, TC placed themselves onto #2, but only a little ahead of P3D (#3). SG did not start as badly as usual. 4th place is a good starting position to have a say in the fight for medals. TAAT (#5) are only narrowly behind the Germans and have OCN (#6), CNT (#7), and [H] (#8) behind them.

Unsurprisingly, rank 9 is held by RKN, followed by Italy who started very well. Swimming probably takes its toll from AF, because merely #11 is currently on the scoreboard. Behind them, the gaps are paper-thin. Rankings there will certainly change a lot in the next few hours. But for now, LTT Forums are surely enjoying #12, followed by EVGA (#13), USA (#14), MK (#15), Australia (#16), and the UK Boinc Team (#17).

Behind them is gaping a small void. SETIKAH (#18) lead this part of the field ahead of Poland (#19), AMD Users (#20), 2ch (#21), Boincstats (#22), and Chinese Dream (#23). Behind them, the distances are microscopic: BOINC Confederation (#24) just so ahead of Ukraine (#25). Mixi (#26) and Crystal Dream (#27) are also separate by a hair only.

As you can see, there is still a lot of entertainment to be had here. Time is running quick and the distances are tight. All the ingredients for a thrilling sprint race are here.

Overall
The overall standings have changed quite a bit with the sprint. While SUSA continue to lead P3D, and TC can consolidate #3, a lot happened behind them. SG are now at #4, very narrowly in front of [H]. TAAT have improved to #6, passing AF (#7). OCN (#8) are gaining many points on AF due to the sprint, and are thus putting on pressure. CNT (#9), RKN (#10), MK (#11), and Italy (#12) can hold their placings for the time being. The Italians gained points, breaking away from EVGA (#13), USA (#14), and Australia (#15).

LTT Forums (#16) are also leapfrogging because of the Sprint, taking advantage of the current sprint weaknesses of Poland (#17), AMD Users (#18), Chinese Dream (#19), and Ukraine (#20). The good intermediate result also helps the UK Boinc Team (#21), who sprinted forward together with 2ch (#22) and SETIKAH (#23). Boincstats can hold #24, but this is due to the short-circuit weakness of Das Kartell (#25), LITOMYSL (#26), and Mixi (#27). At #28 is the Boinc Confederation, ahead of Crystal Dream (#29), US Army (#30) and Pfalz (#31).

You know what you have to do today? Find answers!
Who will win Swimming?
Will AF finally get a medal again?
What is still awaiting us in the Sprint?

As you can see, it remains exciting at the BOINC Pentathlon.

Well....

(editing in progress)Ha! No more getting Ninja'd by Ken while I type!(editing in progress)

The Swimming/Universe portion of the contest has concluded. The TeAm has secured an incredible 7th place, ahead of OCN, and surprisingly CNT, who did not muster a counter-attack.

The real story is the 15+ Million points / 23,000 tasks left awaiting processing by the Universe Server in the last 10 minutes. Team China edged out L'alliance de Francophone (LAF) by only 345 tasks for 3rd, but LAF had the bigger bunker, did they wait too late to release? No risk, no reward?

EDIT: Oh man, EVGA was defeated by BOINC.Italy by ONE workunit.

I was going to say that as well, but didn't, because, well, a trio of teams with 10-15 times our own power can mobilize great amounts of points within only the last few hours, so....I dunno.

For a normal team or dare I say an advanced team, such as I consider ours to be this year, anything later than 12-14 hours is a risk not worth taking.

Fighting in League One teaches me it's not only about validation ratio, but sheer brute force of computing power helps quite often.
In the end, more new recruits means better chance on better spot.

I agree, but how to infect unsuspecting hardware junkies with our particular strain of enthusiasm?

I keep updating my sig (although sometimes quite late) to tell others what we're up to and being active in Hardware and Software section.
I hope CommManajerJ and RyanSmith can also help promoting us, especially in big event like Pentathlon, Seti Wow! , and WCG Christmas challange.

Preview to Jeeper's bulletin on day 8 (german, based on 15:00 UTC stats):

Swimming: "[H] went through the finish at rank 6 an can thus pull in the best placement since 2015, and also keep TAAT at #7 behind them. For TAAT, this is by the way the best single placement since 2010."

Sprint: "#6 is being battled by CNT and TAAT (#7), and like at #3-#5 every hour can change the result here too."

Marathon: "At the end, there will apparently be three teams fighting for #6. TAAT (#6), OCN (#7), and CNT (#8) are close together and with similar tempo on their ways, and watching each other."

Overall: "It is still a tight race for ranks 6 to 9. At this time, TAAT (#6) are setting an example of constancy, and are giving AF (#7), CNT (#8), and OCN (#9) a hard time."

Conclusion:
"- Who will start best at Cross Country?
- Can P3D still attack SUSA at the Sprint?
- Are TAAT able to hold 6th place in the overall ranking?"

--------
Edit,
english and french versions are out now.
