Facts? Please let me know why the left is so opposed to freedom of speech? That is a core principle of our country and democracy as a whole. It's the same tactics that are used in N Korea and China. That's your party. The msm has become the propaganda machine of the communist left. If you'll enlighten me on the facts of why this is acceptable I'll listen.

As is typical you do not understand the difference between freedom of speech, and the social consequences of unpopular speech.

No where in that post did he call for your speech to be banned. Only for people to speak against it and hold those accountable for the consequences.

So tell me, why is the right so opposed to the freedom of speech of those who disagree with them?

As you can see, you're projecting. Again.

It's just the standard conservative line of "freedom of speech means people should be banned from disagreeing with me".

The funny thing is Fox News over the past four years has been the closest thing I have seen to state run media in the US. I get the impression that he hasn't traveled outside the US and has no idea what it is actually like in N. Korea or China.

Where do you get your information from? Which news sources in your mind are accurate?

I took a mostly refreshing break from the news the past two weeks.

Can someone please bring me up to speed on the recent shenanigans? Are things still ratcheting up in terms of the crazy rhetoric?
You haven't missed much, definitely good to get away from the noise news cycle.
Election summary:
- Biden has won the election 306 - 232, winning by more than 7 million votes in popular vote. State electors are almost entirely locked in. The electoral college meets on December 14 to officially confirm that final tally. Government handover transition work is in progress (finally).
- Trump continues to falsely claim that he won the election. And Trump personally continues to harass and intimidate any republicans or election officials who dare to publicly state otherwise, and he continues to amplify and effectively incite death threats against those individuals. Additionally, Trump is still actively seeking to have state legislatures support him in his coup.
- Trump's court cases are basically dead. All of the cases that could have overturned the election have been thrown out, many with prejudice. Trump still implies that he believes his hand-picked supreme court will swoop in at the last minute, in conjunction with state legislatures, to complete his coup.
- Republicans have moved the fight to republican-controlled state legislatures, bringing back debunked claims and fictional claims that were thrown out of court and re-presenting these same lies as fact and as a reason to overthrow the election to Trump.
- Trump and Rudy Giuliani have used the aforementioned state hearings to push state legislatures, asking them to violate state constitutions and federal election law to replace the Biden electors with Trump electors. Trump has made some progress on convincing parts of state republican parties to go along with this coup plot, but no clear wins yet, and zero progress on getting courts to sign off on this unconstitutional plot.
- Trump still has 0 material post-election court victories (somewhere around 40-50 lost or withdrawn cases), their one "victory" allowed election monitors to move a few feet closer to the ballot counters.
- Finally, after all these claims of massive fraud, we're still a month later with a grand total of 0 identified fraudulent ballots included in the election totals. In practice, the Trump campaign has ironically managed to demonstrate that the election was amazingly free from fraud. Although this now well proven reality is overwhelmed in the average republican mindset by the continued big lie.

In other coup-related news outside of the electoral college:
- Given Trumps position and power, only 10% of republican senators and congressmen will admit that Biden won the election even now (and most of those are not running for re-election).
- Trump has fired all of the civilian oversight and advisors for the military that he can (without cause and without explanation), and replaced them with his cronies.
- Some Trump supporters (including Michal Flynn) have now openly and actively called for martial law to be imposed to keep Trump in power. These martial law antics haven't gotten any broader traction outside of a tiny fraction of the nutwing right.
- Trump's massive disinformation campaign has been effective with republicans: up to 90% of Republicans continue to falsely believe Trump won or aren't sure when answering polls, and a similar percentage falsely believe there was massive fraud in the election.
- Edit: forgot to mention, Trump has received $200+ million from donations over the past month, while notionally to help with his election fight, in practice is largely unrestricted in how he uses that cash (there is no personal use ban on the majority of those donations).

Oh I don't know... Maybe the fact the left will blackball you from being able to make a living if you oppose their views. Being attacked, or having your head blown off, on the streets because you support Trump. The msm has colluded to suppress information that undermines the propaganda machine. Social media has also colluded to suppress information and push their agenda.
I don't even know why I try to reason with someone like yourself who supports this kind of shit. If you can't see the harm in a society that suppresses freedom of speech you are clearly a person devoid of a soul.
When asked questions to clarify your position you resorted to telling me I'm devoid of a soul? Who has had their head blown off on the streets because they support Trump? What information has the MSM suppressed? What agenda does Social Media have and what specifically are they suppressing? Where specifically have I advocated for suppression of the First Amendment rights of anyone?

In case you've forgotten. We're still waiting to find out who the communists are and how specifically they are communists. We're also still waiting for you to provide actual evidence of meaningful vote fraud in the 2020 election including in what court case Trump's lawyers have used your so-called video proof.

You seem to really have a problem with your beliefs being challenged in anyway. Why is that?

First we need to define "Freedom of speech" ... could you do that for us?

ken paxton, who is under federal indictment and an unrelated FBI investigation, has officially notified the president that he is requesting a pardon.
My thinking exactly. Just another show of support that will waste time/money and go nowhere. For brownie points.

Looks like Ken is trying to burnish his cred with the Republican diehards for future campaigning. The important thing is that he filed a suit. It doesn't matter if the suit is baseless and stupid.

That's just misattributing an ideology. "Trumpanzee" is comparing people to animals, implying that they are literally inhuman.

I think it's a stretch to call such a silly term 'dehumanizing'. It's hardly up there with Katie Hopkins calling refugees 'vermin'.

I find the word kind of irritating, though. One of those 'cute' constructs that gets old really quickly. Personally I'd just stick with the less linguistically-novel Trumpist or Trumpite or Trumpian. Or Trumpster.

(I've always thought that -ite is slightly more derogatory than -ist, becuase the latter implies the existence of an -ism, i.e. a thought-out philosophy, rather than implying there's nothing more to it than a cult-like following of an individual)

We could compare them to pond scum, but pond scum has a purpose.... it absorbs CO2 and creates oxygen.

You know how conservatives are always going on about 'virtue signaling' well this is what it really looks like. They seem to hate it when it is some random person on the internet doing it, but I guess it is just fine when it is being paid for with my tax dollars?

We all know what is coming. For the next four years republicans will simply continue to deny Biden's win and deny Trump's loss. That's the plan, plain and simple. And god forbid republicans should keep the senate in 2021, that means not one thing not one agenda of Joe Biden will Mitch McConnell pass, let alone take seriously or give any credence to. The senate will shoot down every single administration nominee that Biden will submit... EVERY SINGLE NOMINEE. During the next four years republicans in congress will just pretend the 2020 election never happened and Donald Trump is still in charge, Trump is just on a four year vacation to return in 2024. This will be yet another first for America, where a newly elected president is simply denied and ignored for four full years.

GOP leadership rejects resolution acknowledging Biden as President-elect

BTW, I'm wondering if a new president Joe Biden could simply bypass congress, bypass Mitch McConnell, by appointing his nominees into a temporary position? Isn't there a way that a president can put people into assignments or positions without senate conformation on a temp basis? What happens after that I don't know but it seems if I remember that Obama had to do this, to appoint people into temporary positions because congress refused to act.

The president can appoint acting secretaries but they also lack the legal authority of their confirmed counterparts in very specific instances.

I believe there's also some workaround involving recess appointments

Like all conservative complaints, it's projection.
