I found it kinda amusing but he's right about many things.

What pisses you off about current motherboards?

I'm not really in a pissy mood right now but I would really like a motherboard that would accept both Intel and AMD CPUs and let us run both simultaneously with different operating systems with built-in KVM functionality to allow easy switching between the two systems. I bet that kind of wish is going to piss someone off!

If the motherboard that has features they require only comes with 4 slots and they are going to ignore the two wasted slots they shouldn't have any expectation of setting any speed records. If they do then they are just kidding themselves. Collectively, we can blame this on the OEMs that have chosen to deliberately shovel nothing but 4-DIMM rubbish our way. Don't sell crap with features that can't function correctly.

He must be pretty new to PCs. The 4 DIMM vs. 2 DIMM loading problem has been around forever. Nothing has changed. One doesn't actually NEED to populate all four DIMMs, just because they are there. They don't advertise you can run all four DIMMs at highest frequency at which two DIMMs can run. Indeed they usually have some language about the limitations of the unbuffered multi-drop bus. It like 2010 all over again, which was like 2004, which was like 1998....

He wants two DIMM mobos to be standard since we got 64GB DIMMs now and a regular user shouldn't need more than 128GB RAM. His dream may indeed come true in 2026 or 2027 once mobo manufacturers come to the same realization.

All motherboards come with a minimum of two, so two is actually the standard. He can elect just to use two. Presto, he got himself his desired two DIMM board. But he doesn't understand the inherent electrical or technical issues, therefore thinks something else is afoot, like some kind of deceptive marketing or something. Talking in his ignorance. Proposing a solution that doesn't actually have a problem.

He's more angry about the mainstream overclocking mobos I think. Only very high end mobos come with two DIMM slots. The cheaper mATX ones with 1 DPC have low quality traces so they aren't usually worth it for RAM overclocking.

DDR5 is quite sensitive to SPC (Slots per Channel), just look at how Raptor Lake 5600 MHz support is ONLY for 1 SPC whereas 1 slot populated in 2 SPC boards tops out at 4400 MHz. Anything above that IS OVERCLOCKING. Also happens on EPYC SP5 boards where for Turin you have either 1 SPC @ 6000 MHz or 2 SPC with 1 DPC populated @ 5200 going down all the way to 4000 if fully populated. Check this one (No idea why it says above Processor RAM speed support that it supports 5600 when it doesn't...): https://servers.asus.com/products/servers/rack-servers/RS501A-E12-RS12U#Specifications
For low end computers that aren't going to be ever upgraded, think disposable OEM computers, 1 SPC may make sense for the current extra speed at the cost of capacity you're likely not going to use... except that if you aren't planning to upgrade at all, CAMM2 makes even more sense. No need to get matched RAM pairs or anything if it is a single self contained module.

Looks like it's happening in 2025!

9600 MT/s support for Ryzen is insane!

Does this mean the new Ryzen stepping supports CUDIMMs?????

@Det0x!!!!!
