My wife has a membership to 24 hour fitness. She belonged a club in the Seattle area that was bought out. They (the club that was bought out) had finanical problems: She was able to get her monthly dues down to $8.00 on a permanent basis, which rolled over when the buyout took place.

Just thought I would share that.

Also, just got a membership to a Portland, Or club: $1,000 for 1 year for the two of us. My wife has decided to keep her 24 hour fitness membership so she can workout anywhere in the world.

Damn!!, I wish they have this deal in Southern CA.

Evilution, is this what you said:
3 years

$1,200=1 person each
$600=2
$300=4
$150=8

I can just get 8 people from my school and thats $150 a person for 3 years. GOOD DEAL.

I don't go to gym and have no idea how good or bad 24 hour fitness is

but I came across the following link

link

Also, when I research about another company (name withheld), I found the complaint station and it may be a good place to find out how good a business is.

another link

No matter what business, there are always dissatisfied customers. As long as you don't find their problems annoy you, I think it's OK to do the business with the merchant. However, if you find repeat complaints on somethings that bothers you, then buyer beware.

Be very careful with 24 hour sales people. I haven't one that won't lie to you. Top three lies that I have experienced:

#1 You go in with a free pass, they say that if you use the free pass then that will disqualify you from any promotions/sales.

#2 If you have a corporate rate.. check with your H/R department to find out what the rate plan is, because if you don't, when you go to a salesperson, they'll pretend to look up your company in a magical book and give you a bogus rate (they add 4-5 extra personal workout sessions that you don't need and cost hundreds of dollars).

#3 "This is the only/best deal they have." They have many... just depends on who you ask. I went to one place, guy told me 30 bucks a month, "lowest ever... don't tell anyone I'm giving you this deal," went to another gym, guy told me 25 bucks, "don't tell anyone I'm giving you this deal." Eventually I got mine for 23 bucks a month any gym pass.

Remember to read your contract thoroughly... you have 3 days to cancel, go to another gym and see another rep to cancel your membership... sometimes their salespeople will give you a lower price since they want the commission too.

24 Hr Fitness just recently took over the Q Clubs so they might have the good technology like the Q has. I like going and riding the bikes and watching TV or surfing the Net on the LCD Touch screens.
Thanks,

I have a Sport club membership I'll say this...for Los Angeles people, 24hr fitness sport club gyms rock. Most are not crowded at all and have awesome equipment.

Can't say the same for the regular 24hr gyms, kinda crowded...

24 Fitness = Good

I lost 30lbs since joining 24 hours. Went from 23% bodyfat to <10%

Now ask yourself, what shape are you in? This is a good deal. I paid $700 for 3 years

I've been going to 24 Hour Fitness for about 3 years and I have to say they're by far one of the best clubs out there. They have locations WORLDWIDE. And yes, a full access membership will let you work out anywhere. They are very good overall and MUCH MUCH cleaner than that hellhole BALLY'S. Ugh, it's surprising that place doesn't have lepers on staff.

if you're able to get 8 people together, this might not be half bad. compared to having them haggle you for memberships, this is pretty good. =)

24hr fitness is suck. Used car sales tactic, impossible to get out of any contract, dirty, overcrowded facilities, more and more commerciallized (in club sales, demos etc). Bunch of damned crooks. Then again so is just about any other clud. LA fitness may be the only half decent one.

800 for 2 people for 3 years, 400 each
900 for 3 people for 3 years, 300 each

He made a copy of his contract(with bar code on it), now I just use that copy to get in for FREE.

Bally's is much worse in terms of pressuring you to join. When you go in for a trial membership, they basically lock you up in a little office and have two CS reps convince you to join until either 45min has elapsed or you've joined. It was annoying as hell...

For those of you not certain about committing yourself, you can go to the site, check out the club nearest you. See if they have their "10 days for free" trial. You need to register in order to print out the coupon though. They also have this 90 days for 90 dollars deal, no registration fee, etc. If you decide within the first 30 days you want to keep it, you can use that 90 dollars to apply towards a long term membership such as the ones mentioned earlier. Just seems like a less commital alternative for those of you who want to check it out first.
