Is there anything better yet? I was looking up the biggest CRT's available and figured high end 24's had to still be around but, no. Finally with GeForce 8800 gtx not to mention SLI, we could have run our games at 2048x1536 at a full 24 inches of CRT clarity. Reading the amazon reviews for FW900 makes it sound like the best display ever made. Perhaps a multi-monitor LCD system or high resolution projector, but still I don't know, I'm in the market for about a $200 for a new display.

There's a refurbished one for sale there, if you've got the money it might be worth it, but who knows if you have a representative sample of what the fw900 once was.

Anyone know of anything better, own one or want one?

theres a HUGE thread on this monitor over at hard forums if you want to check it out.

Beautiful display. Would get this one, but its huge, and I dont think it would last that long.

So its 2407 for me.

Watch ebay. I got 3 21" Sony Trinitrons for $25/each. Shipping wasn't an issue since I bought them from a local seller and showed up with a van to pick them up. I've seen 24" Sony widescreens go for $300 to $400 - they don't get discounted nearly as much.

...yeah. I sometimes had to move them in my old job. Not fun.

The 24" widescreen CRTs tended to have convergence/alignment issues in the corners from what I saw. However, those were mostly the SUN Microsystems ones, and I don't know if they're the same internally as the Sony models.

^ So basicly.. ONE brand has an issue, therefore let's generalize on all

...which is why I said that I don't know if the Sony models would also be like that. :disgust:

Sorry for, you know, providing some first-hand information on the topic.

I'm just pointing out..
Instead of saying: 24" Widescreen CRTs tended to have such and such issues
Say: Sun Microsystem 24" widescren crts tended to have such issues, I wonder if the Sony's do too

No need to be a jerk. I read his post and in no way did i think he was generalizing especially since he pointed out that his experience is only on the sun monitors he has seen. And since Trinitron aperture grille is used in these sun monitors this is very relevant to the topic. Dont flame when you have nothing to add to the conversation.

Just thought i'd comment on my FW900, It's an original (not refurbished) and it still has awesome geometry & convergence corner to corner (Im very picky about these things), The build date on mine is May 2002 and its still going strong! Awesome monitor

Unfortunately If you read through the large FW900 thread on Hardocp you'll find its basically a gamble when ordering one of these nowadays. The majority are used or refurbished units so overall quality varies greatly from unit to unit, A lot of times they get damaged during shipping due to poor packaging and handling.. But If you're looking for one I'd try finding one thats original and not refurbished.
