24'' Ips monitor..U2410?

sorry to jump in late on this but I noticed some of you recommending the 2410, which is around $500.... what about the U2311H, still ultrasharp for $279.00.
Need to pick up a monitor and the 279 is more my price range, would this be a good selection?

For the price (and much above), it's an extremely good choice for a monitor. The U2410 is older, has a different aspect ratio (16:10 vs 16:9), is slightly better in visual quality, and has more connectivity (U2311H has no HDMI). If you don't mind any of that, then definitely go for the U2311H instead for the price.

do I need hdmi? does that matter coming from a geforce 560ti? or do you only need a hdmi cable for tv purposes?

Only for TV. DVI and HDMI will offer the exact same graphics coming from a PC's video card.

dont plan on doing tv... so looks like the 2311 would be the better option. so around that price range should I stick to this or consider other brands.. ie samsung?

I don't know if any other brands currently have an IPS panel this cheap right now... (Anyone else know?) Getting an IPS panel at this size and price is simply awesome.

So I got the U2410 on Friday and used it thru the weekend. Overall it's a great monitor, but I'm a bit disappointed with the viewing angles in portrait mode. The two 2007FPs I have at work are much better. The black levels also don't seem as good. Pretty much everything else about the monitor is great.

Also, agree on the 2311. That is a fantastic price, if you don't mind 1080.
