I just bought the Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP.

Deciding factors, Chizow said it's a VA (which I'm researching now), the professional and user reviews, the staggering input flexibility, and for $60 more a five year warranty with zero "bright" pixels for the entire warranty term.

Phew, that's the most I've ever plunked down on a montitor! I've never bought Dell but have seen many faithful followers. I need a drink...

Review of your monitor: http://monitortest.blogspot.com/ It's a VA.

Probably the most detailed tech review I've ever seen. Gets a good mark from the extremely picky reviewer (he basically hates VA and won't touch any of them over even the oldest, most grainy IPS.)

Thanks. I didn't find this review. Looks like it did quite nicely and is indeed a VA. And thanks to Chizow. I take time to read your posts and find your analysis concise, accurate, and free of bias. You present the facts as plainly as possible without emotional extras. Chizow for Mod next time around.

Thanks to everyone who contributed. I've always dumped my money in the rig and not the display. I began to question that logic because what's it all worth if powering a sub-par screen? I feel I just created a better balance and plan to enjoy this monitor for years. It feels much more an investment than the hundreds I spend on short-life GPUs.

Thanks again..

If your GF's 19" monitor is rated at 8ms, it is very likely a VA-based panel.

i agree..

on a sub 20" monitor the TN panel badness isnt so prounounced. at least you are not seeing viewing angle problems in the corners becuse your eyes are looking at a different angle from the corner (or well as big an angle).

24" is completely difference, color shifting is much more noticeable . and either way there is already banding.

i would recommend the westinghouse one. 24", hdmi, hdcp, and reasonablye cheap ( i think under $400). and its not TN.

the soyo 24" is TN now, and even the old one was ugly not to mention had no hdcp support so no blue ray or anything. if you can afford it , or can find one cheap the LG l246wp-bn is nice (i got mine during the best buy circuit city clearance , for $400... but they are typically the same cost as the dell 24" so normally not worth it)

Not everyone is as sensitive to TN panels as you are.

I have no problems with viewing angles, colors, or response time on my girlfriend's very cheap 19" TN-panel 8ms monitor.

The G2400W that I want is a 24" that's supposed to have very good viewing angles and colors FOR A TN PANEL, and 5ms response time. Sounds good to me.

A 24" TN is affected enough by vertical viewing angles that pretty much looking straight at it on usually desk heights will show a dark shift in colors.

Distance to display means everything. Even a 14" TN could be a problem depending on how close you sit. The arguement is a moot point, IMO, if you have already taken distance into consideration.

I don't have a problem with my TN veiwing angles, either, and I use a 24" TN.

I actually changed my mind and got the Doublesight 25.5" IPS panel monitor, because my girlfriend and I discussed it and we realized that we watch movies/shows on my CRT monitor from our bed... and we couldn't do that on a TN. I definitely do notice viewing angle issues on her monitor when laying down on the bed. Just never at her desk.

Congrats! I'm likely going to get one myself. I agree with Owls, I have a 2001FP right now and I love it. I'm sure the 2408 will serve you well.

Sam's Club has the Westy 24" for $299. Great buy for the features. However the new 26" Westy has not been getting the same praise largely in part to switching to a TN panel.

Hm.. $300 for the westy is definitely attractive. I looked at it several times, and other than terrible blacks that monitor didn't shock me too much. Dug through the LCD thread, but can't find anything about the input lag or response time.

Some folks claim bad input lag, but most of the posts I have read say the lag is pretty decent.
