Though the free memory extravaganza is over, this still seems like a decent deal. This week's BestBuy ad has Kingston PC3200 256MB RAM selling for $24.99 again. But knowing they might not have stock in store, I decided to do a pickup order online. Lo and behold the price was listed as $19.99! I'm going to go with precaution and say your mileage may vary, but I don't see why it would be any different for you since it doesn't check region until checkout. Get on it now before they see their mistake! Get a cheap pair for dual-channel!

EDIT: [ Here's the link ]

yeah $19.99 is not a stellar price, especially when i got a 512mb of kingston pc3200 for $17.00 from CC a month ago.

but if you need a 256mb stick for a basic upgrade it is cheaper than anywhere else right now.

also i just printed out the webpage price of $19.99 and the store matched it, then used a $5.00 off zone coupon, so was $15.00 + tax for me, which is not bad.

More importantly, if you Pricematch to Circuit City, you can get the same ram at Circuit City for $16.50 after the pricematch, which is also not bad.

the real question is, what the hell are you ganna do with a 256mb dimm. they're not guaranteed to dual channel, and even at 512mb, that's the bare minimum for a typical pc these days. 256mb seems to chug as soon as you put a virus scanner/spyware scanner on it, or simply run 4-5 tabs of firefox.

512 is plenty fo rmost people.

unless you play games,.

at work my machine with 512mb of ram can have visual studio , cvs, lotus notes, and office suite and 15 firefox windows, yahoo and aol instant messagers , and antivirus / firewall and it runs fine.

only time the 512mb ram was a problem was if you are say compiling a few million lines of code.

they are guarenteed dual channel, if they were not, they would say not for dual channel like kingston always puts on there non-dual channel ram, there were a dozen sticks at best buy and non of them said non-dual channel.

Even though dual channel ram is really a made up standard like PC4000 ram. there is no Official JEDEC standard for Dual-Channel.

I make 512MB machines crawl just installing HP printer drivers, lol.

i'd say almost all half decent ram, can run dual channel. this being sold at a big name store, would probably half to be at least half decent, since best buy would not sell uber crap ram that would get them a lot of returns, it just isn't worth the customer service and return and restocking hassles for a retail chain.

That's what I did. I had two 256MB ValueRAM sticks in DC from when I first built my PC, and now with another pair of ValueRAM, I've got a gig in DC.

Can anyone who's gotten this at Best Buy tell me if it's single or double sided? Also the CAS would be peachy, newegg shows some at 2.5 and some at 3, bestbuy shows nothing :disgust:
I have a gift card I'm looking to burn up and debating between a pair of these and a n52 gaming pad...

I have a A64 Winchester with 2x512 sticks already, so if these are single sided I could bump to 1.5gigs rather cheaply even at $25/each.
