Not sure about mantle... 270X's are reaching the $250 mark and 760s occasionally go on sale for ~$200. So, if you can get the 760 for cheaper than the 270X, it's a better choice since it is 10-15% faster than the 270X.

Yeah that's not accurate at all. Gigabyte R9 270 is $192 (same core setup as 270X with lower clocks, just overclock it) and R9 270x (PowerColor OC) is $212.

270 at sub $200 is definitely a great deal. But again, if you can get a 760 for a bit more ($235 or wait for another $200 deal) then it would be a much better choice since it is at least 20-30% faster than a 270 non-X.

That 270 is on backorder and it is $209, not $192... Most others are out of stock as well... So newegg's prices are somewhat valid. You won't have an easy time finding a 270X under $250 that's still in stock. And you will definitely not find a 270 non-X for under $220.

They should... A lot of websites have back-ordered the high end Radeons and they should be arriving this month. Hopefully, that and the recent decline of cryptocoin value, will help bring the hyper-inflated prices down to more reasonable levels.

Yep, I grabbed a Powercolor 7850 2GB for $120 after $30 MIR last week from newegg. It doesn't get much better than that unless this ECS GTX 660 comes back in stock.

Personally I think the 760 is the better choice, but the 270X is not a bad card.

And, for either choice I'd go with the MSI Gaming Edition.

Dont buy amd gpu's from newegg.

tigerdirect has the 270x MSI for 239. There have been some fan failures on this type of cooler.

Just get the 760 i'd say. AMD gpu prices are mining driven so they are not a good deal for gamers these days unless you plan to game/mine for which amd cards are still pretty unbeatable even at high prices.

Who cares what the price is on an AMD GPU card, all they sell are beta products anyway. Be smart and grab an Nvidia GPU. Much higher quality product overall, with better hardware and software support.

Depends where you live 760's are up to around 270-280ish in Canada due to the lack of AMD cards driving up the prices of all nVidia cards. 270x's are 240-250ish right now which isn't great for what was supposed to be a 199 MSRP. Bad times all around to buy GPU's honestly the only cards that are cheaper then MSRP are the 780's.

I'll be running Win 8.1, some gaming (nothing eye-popping, mid resolution with good FPS on today's top titles is fine) and I'd like a card that supports as many recent DirectX and OpenGL features as possible, for some graphics programming. But not absolutely up-to-date, I mean DirectX 11.1 vs 11.2 is no big deal here.

Prefer 2GB of Ram but not required. Would also prefer to keep power consumption reasonable, no need for heavy duty Crossfire or SLI configurations. (I have a 430W Corsair power supply with 32a on the 12v rail.)

Would like to spend $150 max. Am I looking at a GTX 650 or Radeon R7 260 or 7790? No chance of sneaking up to an R9 anywhere?

According to GPU bench, the GTX 760 is faster overall than the 270x, especially in Crysis 3 and BF3.

I'm not good at recommendations for low spec machines, but the GPU bench between the GTX 650 vs the 7790 has the 7790 beating the living daylights out of the GTX 650.

The R260x is slightly faster than the 7790, so I'd get that one..

these amd vs nvidia threads are starting to become indistinguishable from subtle troll threads. What's better, an r9 270 or a gtx 760? an r9 270x or gtx 770? an r9 280x or a gtx 780? In each case, the amd card is fighting something in a completely different weight class, but you wouldn't know it from the pricing.

Let's not forget that there were new radeon 7870's at newegg for $145 in november and december. Or gtx 660's, a more appropriate match up for the r9 270, can regularly be found for ~$150.
