worse? r600 has been out for less than a month and it is already starting to "rebound" with the 1GB/faster core HD2900xt

The R600 sometimes gets beaten by a X1950 how is that not a failure? The Hardocp article shows a $280 card beating a $400 card how is that not a failure? So far you have posted nothing but your opinion and a personal insult. If that's the basis for your argument that it's not a failure.....you are so deep in denial that nothing will pull you into the light.

Suggestions from our fellow members here would be helpful. This way, we can avoid all of the BS aftermath of complaints that "we" didn't do our review correctly.

Is this really that big of a surprise to anyone? Let's look back some, gen by gen, generally speaking :

GF4 > Radeon 8500
Radeon 9700 > GF4
GF-FX = or < Radeon 9700
Radeon 9800 > GF-FX
GF6 < or = X8X0
GF7 < or = X18/19X0
GF8 > or = X2900

The lead swings back and forth, with some notable mis-steps (FX, 2900) along the way. It shouldn't be so shocking that the 2900 is average at best (considering price/performance/heat/delay of release/etc). Nobody expected the 8800s to be so strong before they came out, just like nobody really expected GF-FX to be so terrible. Designing new gpus is a truly massive effort, and involves giant teams working herculean efforts against tight schedules with limited budgets and often arbitrary management decisions. Sometimes things come out roses, sometimes you get an FX, or a 2900. Deal with it. ATi will make things a bit better with a refresh and better drivers, and Nvidia will do the same. Just get the best card you can for your hard-earned $$ and shut the hell up if you're just a fanboy of either company. Neither company gives a crap about you anyway, they just want their damned $$$. Arguing about this kind of utterly obvious stuff makes one look a little daft.

is superior to the gts320? did you not look at that? it's not that far behind in high res and full aa/af, infact it even beats the 2900xt in 1 test and the 640mb counterpart. price, power consumption, and over all performance, it definitely is a better buy than the 2900xt which I think is what the HardOCP article was trying to get across. Sure it's not the better card but the 640mb version is definitely the winner of those tests, putting it BELOW the GTS.

You can't really draw any conclusions...since they used completely different games from what Hardocp used. Hardocp's tests usually give far lower numbers then what other sites get...because they include worst-case or near worst-case scenarios. The site mentioned that they are using typical-case gameplay.

Also, comparisons are only meaningful when frame rates are acceptable. HL1 Ep1 and F.E.A.R. frame rates for the 320 and 2900xt are playable but not exactly smooth. The 2900xt does show its superiority in CoH though.

Yep, and look at the res, all the above tests were with 1920x1200, which is useless to those with 1680x1050 LCDs. 1920 will lean more towards the 2900/640GTS, but for 1680, the 320mb GTS is still a better deal.
