Basic Income is economically sound and would be deficit neutral if taxed accordingly. Furthermore, if a UBI was used to securitize home loans / rent, a majority of Americans would directly benefit even after they paid the tax to fund it. Do not underestimate how little the average person has right now, how fragile their situation is, and how easy it would be to improve their situation if we just cared enough to act.

These slapshot payments are far from the scale needed, but at a time when people are hurt from the virus and shutdowns, every bit does help.

He clearly had numerous Democrats wanting to give more stimulus to individuals and specific stimulus to restaurants via the Restaurants Act since the spring, it's fucking Christmas now, but he did not use the power of his office to get it done for 2/3 of a year now. His party ignored it most of the year, and while the WH did eventually start negotiating with Dems in the late fall, Mitch would not commit to any package that large, period. Trump did not use the power of the presidency and bully pulpit to try to turn the tide like a good leader would do. And now he wants to put his foot down? A lot of it is theater and part of theater is for attention. And because morons like you come in and say 'look it's Trumps idea to give folks more money in a time of need' and give him the credit, so he does it, because he knows people are fucking dumb and will say exactly what you said in this thread.

And frankly, is 25 days so long to wait? In 25 days we will have Joe Biden signing the bills and the stimulus checks. In 25 more days we will get our stimulus legislation, in 25 more days we will get a lot of good stuff like holding Russia accountable and a true Covid game plan plus lots of vaccines and the best of all in 25 days we will have a president that when he speaks to America, America won't need to punk their guts. I'm entirely agreeing with you. I sincerely don't give a flying shit who endorsed it. I wish it would have been said and acted on more intensely way earlier in this stimulus bill.

I also stated earlier, this only hurts fellow Republicans. If anything it's inciting internal conflicts because there ARE Republicans that agree a larger stimulus check is a must. The only problem is the gate-keeper Mitch holds the key. The kicker here though is that this will effect the Georgia run offs. Hopefully this lights a fire under Mitch to bring it to the floor.

Trump was much more than MIA-he had his Treasury Secretary act as point man for him in these negotiations. Up until last night the WH was firmly against anything more than a token payout to the little guys, in line with the rest of the GOP.
