Basic Income is economically sound and would be deficit neutral if taxed accordingly. Furthermore, if a UBI was used to securitize home loans / rent, a majority of Americans would directly benefit even after they paid the tax to fund it. Do not underestimate how little the average person has right now, how fragile their situation is, and how easy it would be to improve their situation if we just cared enough to act.
These slapshot payments are far from the scale needed, but at a time when people are hurt from the virus and shutdowns, every bit does help.
