2x 7600 GS in SLI

I was just wondering, for those of you in the know...

Which do you think would provide the best performance? 2x 7600 GS in an SLI configuration, or a lone 6800 GS?

And would the two cards provide enough of a performance boost (if performance boost there is) to justify getting two cards instead of one?

If you're going to spend "that much" on two 7600GS. Why not grab a x1800xt pci-e for 199.99 @ the egg?

IT will burninate those two combinations.

You probably will be much better off with a higher performing single card. How much are you looking at spending?

Well, I currently have a single 6800 GS. I just happened to spot 7600 GS's on sale for around $90 or so. I wasn't actually looking to upgrade, but the sale got me thinking.

So I guess I can spend around $200.

yeah im not sure what the hell "burninate" means but a x1800xt 256mb or a 7900gt will both dominate 2 7600gs's with ease. a faster single card solution is almost always the better choice when budget is an issue.

I believe the 6800GS outperforms the 7600GS in a single card situation. So this would be kind of a sideways upgrade. You'd be laying out money, time, and effort for what probably wouldn't be a big increase in fps. The heat and power consumption will probably go up in your rig as well. It might be fun to go SLI, but probably not too practical in your situation
It looks like you have a PCIexpress mobo so you have a lot more upgrade options than the AGP guys have. For around $150 you could get a 7600GT, and for $200 you could get a X1800XT 256 or a X1900GT. But there's nothing wrong with a 6800GS so you could just wait for the next generation of cards/games.

the 7600GS IIRC is still only a 128-bit memory interface vs the 256-bit interface of the 6800GS and the 7900 series. The memory bandwith starts to matter more as you increase resolution or use more AA. This is one of the reasons that faster single cards often do better than two mid-range or budget cards in SLI.

With that said, the 7900GS does have a 256-bit interface and will under $200 when it is out in retail and might be a good candidate for "budget" SLI.

Honestly, don't waste tour money of SLI 7600GS. IIRC, the best they can do is about 2/3 or 3/4 the performance of a 7900GT. The latter can be had for about $300 CAD now or <$250 US. Wait a week or two for the 8800 cloud to blow over, and it may even be cheaper. And 2x 7600GS = most expensive convection oven ever?

If SLI is ever suitable for less than the best cards available it must be rarely and then only transitorily. Single card FTW unless you must have and can afford the bestest (x2), and can tolerate the fiddlyness.
