Does this mean I can just signup with the card right now and basically get $30 off anything?

Do I have to pay anything later? Can I just cancel this card after I use the $30?

From what I understand, you can pay it off and then cancel shortly after. Although with Christmas coming up, and 0 percent APR ... it's not a bad card if you're low on cash.

Doesn't signing up for credit cards and canceling them mess up your credit rating?

Don't cancel! Having unused credit available improves your credit score. Note the key word is UNUSED.

Not necessarily. However, careful with the Amazon card since they are actually through BankOne one of the most unscrupulous ripoffs in the credit card industry: they hold payments so you get late charges and forfeit your 0% interest and default to a higher (19.99 or more interest rate), they lie to you over the phone, they are scum. I hear, though, they may be purchased by Chase. They're all ripoffs. Take my advice and avoid cc's entirely. Or just use one: American Express and pay it off monthly. Satan looks good compared to credit card companies.

Be careful, very, very, careful...

wow thats a bit extreme

i never have any problems with cc. i have problems with merchants.
cc companies are generally good with dealing with these problems and put the payment on hold. sometimes im late to pay and they're generous to waive the late fee and interest if i call them up and told them i was on a trip, etc.

the ones i use: AMEX blue, Chase platinum

Maybe, but true. AMEX is OK and fair. But I maintain extremely vehement that BankOne and other cards will rip you a new one if you're late: $35 or more. For example, if you're over credit limit by $33, and you don't know this and you make a payment of $40, this brings you $7 under your credit limit but the $35.00 they charge brings you again over the credit limit and you get another $35.00 charge (their debit brought you back over limit). They're bad news. If you've had a good experience, great for you. I haven't...it's cash for me from now on.

Should I even try to sign up? I basically have absolutely no credit and the four or five cards I've already tried to sign up for have been turned down.

Deffinitely not. Stop applying for cards. Every time you apply, a not is added to your credit report. It basically looks like you're really desperate to mess up your credit.

Thanks. I know they deduct points when you get denied for a card and this was a couple of months back. Since then, I've been looking for how to build credit from being a nobody

if you already signed up for the amazon card, it should be available right after you sign up to use with the 30$ coupon in your amazon.com account.
