I don't get black bars on TV shows and cartoons. That's good enough for me
My 27" display also releases a lot of heat. The U3011 does not use LED backlighting (correct me if I'm wrong) so it should release even more heat than the 27". Having it on all day is no problem. It wouldn't go on sale if it were

Piklar, thanks for posting the pic. It really puts into perspective the difference going from 27" to 30". By the way, you have a very sweet set-up.
Based on the responses, it seems I'm leaning more towards the U3011, but now the only hesitance is coming from some people commenting on its massive heat output. Is it really that bad? My monitor usually tends to be on a lot, what with me constantly writing and all. Just something I have to get the full scoop on.
