I don't get black bars on TV shows and cartoons. That's good enough for me

Thanks for all the replies, guys.

Piklar, thanks for posting the pic. It really puts into perspective the difference going from 27" to 30". By the way, you have a very sweet set-up.

Based on the responses, it seems I'm leaning more towards the U3011, but now the only hesitance is coming from some people commenting on its massive heat output. Is it really that bad? My monitor usually tends to be on a lot, what with me constantly writing and all. Just something I have to get the full scoop on.

Thanks.

My 27" display also releases a lot of heat. The U3011 does not use LED backlighting (correct me if I'm wrong) so it should release even more heat than the 27". Having it on all day is no problem. It wouldn't go on sale if it were

Not to hijack, but do you think a GTX 660 would game relatively well at this monitor's native res?

I paid approx $320 CDN including Shipping and Customs for a Korean QNIX QX2710 Samsung PLS (IPS) 4K PPS 2650x1440 27" display and must say they are remarkable and capable of 120 Hz.

I'm powering it with a GTX 280 at the moment which is fantastic for Web Browsing and watching Movies but waiting pending what the AMD R290X card has to offer in regards to Gaming.

Right now the GTX780 384 Bit/3GB and Titan 6 GB cards are ridiculously over priced where 2 x's HD7950's will do for 120Hz 4K gaming at 1/2 the price but then one has to contend with Dual GPU CF or SLI anomalies whether the 2x's GPU is a single or dual card setup from either AMD or nVidia.

We need either a 1000+ Mhz 384 Bit/6GB or 512/4GB single GPU card to get the BEST Experience at a reasonable price for Gaming on these 4K PPS 120Hz Displays. The AMD R290X is promising this but at what cost per performance ratio in respect to Gaming nVidia's insanely priced $700+/$1000 GTX 780, 690, Titan or AMD HD 7990 cards which actually fall short for 120Hz 4K PPS Gaming.

We are entering a new ERA for the DeskTop PC Display. When to Byte the Bullet - I'm patiently waiting.

a GTX 660 at 1440 or 1600p umm... no!

You would need a 770 at the mimimum.

if you don't want to be playing everything on low detail.

And for the OP I would go with the 30 inch screen.

That will be the next upgrade for me when I decided to upgrade from my 24 inch IPS monitor.

from 24 to 27 is not a big enough increase in size. Go big or go home I just upgraded my Main TV from 46 inch to 64 inch!

I have the Dell 27" right now and a 30" is definitely my next upgrade!
